You're essentially correct here, but the reason it's a PPV is that it is a Latin Fury card that they were already putting together when the WBC and WBO started making noise about stripping KP.

 

The idea that Pavlik is ducking Paul Williams is laughable. The Punisher will have to go back down to 147 when Sergio Martinez whips him from pillar to post.

Honestly, I give PW a lot of credit for taking on a beast like Sergio Martinez at such short notice. I think Martinez is a more avoided fighter than Williams...and for good reason. Sergio is a tough southpaw with mad skills. He fights like an hispanic version of Joe Calzaghe.

 

I guess I understand the point of taking the fight to keep from being stripped of his belts, but now I feel like everyone has to refer to him as the Middleweight "Champion" with quotation marks since he's fighting no-bodys just to keep the titles. Seems like an empty victory in my mind, and a question of honor. Win the belts back after you're healed if they strip them from you! And honest question here, I thought most sanctioning bodies had exempt status from issues like this based on health problems? I mean how long did Vernon Forrest go postponing his fight with Martinez due to various injuries before there were threats of stripping him of his titles or labeling him as a "champion in recess" or whatever?

 

Who really knows what goes on in the minds of the santioning body leaders? Most of their decisons seem pretty arbitrary.

 

I probably wouldn't watch this fight if it was free. Really have no interest at all in this match up

 

Im still laughing when he said we needed to watch the Rubio fight in HD to see the improvements Pavlik has made since the Hopkins fight.
