I think it has a lot more to do with Espino, Rubio and Lockett being his last 3 defences. Rubio is the best of those 3 and yet he was soundly beaten by(what became) the European champion at the weight below. None were genuine top 10 Middleweights, although Ring probably had Rubio in the top 10 and possibly had Lockett there.
I think it's the complete opposite on this website. Some go on as if he's some sort of bum now. Before the Hopkins fight he was massively overrated, now he's criticised and ridiculed so much he's becoming underrated.
It be a really entertaining fight while it lasts but Pavlik would break him down and i could see Macklin crumpling around 6-7 rounds in and getting stopped. Macklin would enjoy some success and would mark up Pavlik but it would all be at a cost. He should steer clear of Pavlik for now at least.
Spot on. He's still the man at 160 and I still see him as an elite fighter at the weight until somebody proves otherwise and defeats him. It's amazing what 1 loss does to people's thoughts on a particular fighter. All of that said, I still think Williams beats Pavlik.
It's Macklin that is heavily overrated. He's knocked out a guy with a china chin and beaten Wayne Elcock. I mean lets put that into perspective when we're talking about a guy like Pavlik who has competed on a world level.
I watched some clips someone put on youtube. I still think macklin takes it. Pirog looks half decent but i think macklin is a big step up from what i ve seen.
I know, some people make a prediction before actually seeing the opponents previous bouts. People are vastly underrating Pirog, or maybe its because he's Russian and Macklin is British/Irish.
The only thing that would be being protected by that fight not coming off would be Macklin's ability to string a sentence together. He's not a worthy challenger, and if he did get a shot Pavlik would knock his head into the third row.
Well I have seen every fight of Pirogs thats on YouTube. I give Macklin every chance of beating him. Pirog looks good against guys that come at him in straight lines and Macklin has a bit more to him than that.
Not a worthy Challenger. He's rated on average around 6 by evry major organisation!!! Ring have him 5 or 6.
I disagree, I see Macklin stopping Pirog but I obviously respect that Pirog has nice footwork and decent speed so I can see why some would fancy the result to go his way.
Espino was rated #3 by the WBC. Was he a worthy challenger? All this Macklin bull**** is comic. Pavlik needs to fight Sturm (and, ideally, Sylvester) for unification, or Williams for reputation. When mandatory time arrives, I'd rather see him fight Golovkin or Jacobs.
