Pirog needs to make it happen now and this is a great opportunity for him. Pavlik will get him the exposure he needs and I think he takes it. Now for Pavlik this is a balsy move, if he loses here he sudenly becomes irrelavent. Respect to kelly for giving the guy a shot.
Nothing against KP but he's already irrelavant(Dead division and his current loss)! I still think Pavlik will KO Pirog!
Ill be rooting for Pirog should this fight happen, and i honestly do think he can pull this off, though its a big task.... too many people are underrating Pavlik. But i believe Pirog just might have the goods.... but what a fight this would be, and a true test to see just where Pirog and Pavlik are at at the moment. Pirog will be in with someone who hits harder then him, has more expeirence, and is just as big if not bigger. This fight seems a bit too good to be true but heres to hoping......
Too bad there aren't any English "scalps" to be had. :rofl:rofl:rofl American fighters>British/English fighters (always have been, always will be)
not yet, he still has a name that draws casual fans. A loss to Pirog may end that. I've only seen that little bit of Pirog but I seriously question how Pavlik will hit him consistantly enough to win the fight.
It's weird to think that Pavlik's actually a couple years younger than Pirog. While alot of people see it as a crossroads fight for Pavlik, it's one for Pirog as well. Dmitry doesn't have 2 years to wait before facing a guy like Kelly; anything more than one easy-ish defense and I'd be disappointed. 18 fights or not, the guy's 30 with a belt. He's got to go after guys like Pavlik, Williams, Martinez, Sturm, etc. now. That's why I like this fight. There should be a great deal of urgency from both sides to stake their claim in what's still a wide-open division.
yeah it is for Pirog as well, its different for him because he is on the way up and Pavlik is on the verge of becoming a journyman fighting on FNF. Thats a long way to fall, he was on top of the world after the second JT win. All of a sudden the MW division just got interesting, like within the last couple of months.
This Pirog guy looks like a bad style for Pav. He moves well, especially body and head, shows some angles, and has good speed and power. Jacobs was missing with a lot of his punches the other and he's a talented offensive fighter .
When Jacobs was at the lowest point of his squat and appeared to be falling backwards he actually grabbed the back of Pirogs leg/knee to keep himself from falling back.
Yeah, it could have been ruled a KD. If it was a balance issue then Jacobs would have 'gotten away with one'. If he was hurt the ref did him no favors by not stopping the action.
I don't think this fight is going to happen. - Pavlik at 180 pounds 2 weeks before the Martinez fight. - [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIt5YxQ6GOI[/ame] - - - Pavlik right now: - - http://www.vindy.com/news/2010/aug/05/tension-builds-in-team-pavlik/
