The only thing about the fight was the fact that JT wasn't busy at all. He would let Pav shoot 9 shots to his shoulder and glove but didn't do anything in return. That is what gave pav the edge. JT landed the cleaner punches no doubt, but it is hard to say a guy who was clearly out worked deserves the decision. A lot of judges base their decisions on work rate, punches thrown etc.
D_needstolearnboxing Work rate and punches thrown are not part of the scoring guidelines. If he lets Pavlik shoot 9 shots to his shoulder and glove then by the scoring guidelines Taylor wins the exchange on defense even if he doesn't throw a punch back. The 4 scoring categories in that 9 punch exchange: Clean punching - no winner EFFECTIVE aggressiveness - no winner Ring Generalship - no winner Defense - Taylor Willie Pep would be considered a journeyman if he had to deal with today's judges and fans.
Sensible post. I also had it 7-5 to Taylor. 117 is just ridiculous and shows how stupid some people can be. Stay away from scoring boxing fights.
I'm no fan of Jermain Taylor but even I had him winning 6-4 with 2 rounds drawn. 117-111 is ridiculous and with judges like that I fear for Calzaghe. Las Vegas judging is a lottery
Alright another genius on ESB. As I said if JT throws considerably less punches and Pav throws in spurts a 9-1 ratio... Who's gonna win the round??? Come on supergenius.... No judge in their right mind would say someone who throws 100 punches landing 25% would lose a round against someone throwing 25 punches landing 50% (1 clean punching) unless they were staggering blows, which in this case wasn't the fact. When you are ringside you see the aggressor throwing all those punches with no answer(2 effective aggression)... what does that imply???? (3 ring generalship by definition:to force an opponent to adopt a style of boxing at which he is not particularly skillful) JT would have won the fight had he just flung his arms around a little bit more. JT defense wasn't that great b/c he was getting caught by Pav's punches. Did you watch the fight? Or are you just reading what others have posted and going along for the ride? :hi:
Drexl was spot on for the exchange analysis MAYBE, but I was talking about rounds. BTW my score was 7-5 Pav. 5-5 going into the 11th. No doubt JT lost the last two.
Most of the rounds were made up of Pavlik throwing consistantly and hitting gloves consistantly, followed by Taylor throwing in spurts but landing most of his shots on Kelly's body or through/around his guard. I don't disagree with your overall score by the way. It's a lop-sided decision that I think is plain wrong.
that would be somewhat true, except pavlik hit taylor more than 10 times a round so your rebuttal is flawed.
another delusional fight fan ... we all know pavlik won but id say the other 2 cards were dead on . pavlik won the championship rounds go to fightnews.com and look at how close it was going into rd 10 on 2 of the score cards.
I had JT winning all except round 1, 8 (I think? I'll have to watch it again to be sure), 11, and 12. Maybe one other round could have gone either way. Regardless, it was something like 7-5 in favour of Jermain on my card. I guess we look at different things in a fighter and have different ways of scoring. I know American's often score for sheer aggression. I place slightly more emphasis on who shows the better skills, and Pavlik hitting gloves most of the night, in my opinion, doesn't constitute a totally convincing win. At the end of the day, it should have at least been a draw. We would then be pretty much guaranteed a rematch.
Ay man, there's no need to insult anyone or call them delusional. Can't we just discuss our opinions without resorting to immaturity all the time? By the way, I am not biased in favour of either fighter. I like taylor and I like Pavlik very much.
