He took a big step up in competition against a solid fighter and dominated.

 

Interesting how Easter set that up. He sort of lulled for awhile beforehand, and it was almost like Méndez started an unspoken dialogue of "Word? You need a little rest? Me too, bro. I'm just gonna hang over here by these ropes; you keep inching your way toward me with short little shuffle-slides and throwing open-gloved arm-punches when you come into range so I have plenty of advance notice before y- OW! :dead"

 

to be fair that was a hearns like right hand, those tall skinny guys pack dynamite in their straight punches

made him sit down, can't argue against that. That was a good fight too.

 

I think once Easter slowed down, settled himself and actually looked for the shot he got the job done.

I think he was too interested in a fight before that.

I'm reminded of when the rest of The Revolution in wCw suddenly paused and (mildly) broke kayfabe to ask teammate Perry Saturn, "dude - who the hell writes your promos? :blood" to which he answered "I do! I got tons of 'em!" proceeding to pull wads of crumpled paper and napkins from pockets somewhere (or in his tights, I can't remember)

...except Saturn had 1,000,000x Theophane's personality.
