Closing to land body punches? I though we were just referring to closing the distance in general. You could say Williams utilises his reach due to the Margarito fight where he was up against a pressure fighter, but Williams often looks to push inside rather than stay outside utilising his reach (in fights prior to that one, hell Stewart even commented he thought Williams was more dangerous inside, not that I necesarily agree), so it's not like he'll put his reach advantage to full use... comming in his body will be there to be hit, it's not like Mayweather will pressure or intimidate inside like Margarito, Williams will push inside, his body will be there to be hit like the rest of him.

If any fighter has a hope of controlling the distance with Mayweather it's Dzinziruk (who has a faaaarr superior jab to Williams, though he'd lose as well at this point, lacking the vital experience). That points to another important factor, experience. I can't see Williams southpaw style making up for the gulf in experience between the two fighters (not to mention how vulnerable a southpaw style with his leaky defence makes him to Floyds' right hand counters). Most importantly though, he's not as difficult an obstacle as some make out, perhaps with time, but as of now I don't think as highly of him.

    P.S. Cintron KO2 Cotto, KO5 Williams :smoke

People criticzed Williams for not using his reach enough, but he does not fight on the inside. I have seen him vs Maythsse, Mitchell and Marg, and against NONE of these opponents did he ever look to fight consistently on the inside. He throws in combinations and at high volume yes, but he does so behind a jab and straight left. You can't seriously tell me you think Williamsis going to work inside agianst the shorter Mayweather? Experience is NOT a factor here. Williams has competed against world class opponents, and has fought in the spot light. He is as ready as he will ever be for Floyd. Further more, Floyd has had trouble defensively against southpaws like Judah and Corley. The same problems are bound to present themselves with Williams. This fight is especially hard considering the fact Floyd is a counter puncher, fighting against a fast, tall, long southpaw who throws in high volume and has a good chin. I disagree with your analysis here.

He is the most amazing fighter since Ray Leonard. That is a big compliment.

Dekkers I hope you are not serious with those predictions at the bottom of your post. They are completely ridiculous.

Williams often doesn't keep his distance, he makes exactly the same mistake Dzinziruk makes. He starts off with the straight punches then often winds up on the inside, or comes in behing a shorter punch than a jab, he's still young, and learning his craft. I think people are looking too hard for someone to beat Floyd if they're looking to Williams, it'll be interesting to see if he chooses to pick his punches more against a more difficult target in Floyd. If he throws as wildly as he has in the against far easier targets, he'll find himself on the wrog end of a decision, but ironically his workrate is his best asset. The solution is simple, he needs to refine his form a fair bit, when I see that, i'll agree he has a good chance.

P.S, I think Cintron will feel him out a bit before cracking that glass jaw, KO2 felt more conservative. Willma is a little tougher, despite his porous defence, so I guess he'll live a bit longer :yep

Go watch some Paul Williams fights. Count for three rounds in each fight how many jabs, how many crosses and then compare it to how many uppercuts and hooks from the inside he throws. Then come back here and admit that you are wrong. Thanks in advance. BTW Avatar bets for 2 months should either of the Cintron fights come off. Hope you love gay boys hahaha.

Williams is all over the place, throwing punches from all over the place, more outside than in but who keeps count? You're trying to make him sound like sound like a pure southpaw outboxer (that'll constantly use his size and reach advantage) when he does come inside in his fights (the Stewert comment is from the Pakau fight if you were wondering) :hey. Mayweather will beat him, if Cintron doesn't get to the latest yankee flavour of the month fighters Cotto and Williams first :think

Why would he try to come in on Mayweather who is the shorter fighter? Thats ridiculous. He will occassionally look to step forward off his combinations, and he is not a counter puncher, but he primarily fights from the outside. BTW flavour of the month. Did you see his last fight at all? Do you remember the Marg fight, or going life and death with Estrada?

Fighters improve, he's imporved as a result, and come back from a loss, zeros don't mean that much, even elite fighters struggle, can't write someone off for a bad night or because they don't have a big zero (that's everyhting that's wrong with boxing these days). Besides he hurt his hand in that last fight and still came out on top. It's to bad Clottey had to hurt his hand against Marg or I wouldn't have to worry about Paul Williams right about now :-( Fortunately it's nothing a left hook to the body from Cintron can't correct....

You know it's to easy to get a raise out of you MSTR :p
