Really, really dangerous fight for Larry. He was dropped by guys with far less skill than Louis, and Louis wouldn't fail to finish like those men did. Larry can win, but if Louis drops him and it isn't close to the bell, Louis is going to finish it.
Holmes too long, too strong. Holmes and Ali are poison for Louis. Louis had too much trouble with boxer types who could move. I wouldnt write Louis off completely though. That would be stupid.
This is a hard call, the arguments for Holmes are good ones and I'm confident he'll take the lead in this fight for sure ,but I just sense sometime around the 5th to 8th round Louis is going to hit Larry hard and follow with a savage combination that drops him or severely wobbles Larry. While Holmes has a fantastic heart this ain't Snipes or a gassed Shavers in front of him, this time it's one of the greatest heavyweight finishers in history. Tough call, one I wouldn't bet on
Toss up for me. I think this is a potentially winnable fight for Holmes but only if he comes in 100% and fully focused and determined. He can’t afford to get sloppy as he did against Renaldo Snipes, Weaver or Shavers. If he gets caught, Joe Louis ( who happens to be the best finisher of all time ) isn’t letting him off the hook
That person sure is not me. I wouldn't bet against a prime Joe Louis vs. anybody! He's my number one, in legacy and head to head!
Pretty much the only fighter I think would stop prime Larry Holmes. Larry aggravates the hell out of Joe with the jab during the first six rounds, then Joe starts catching up with the right. A freakily amazing, powerful combination floors Larry in the 12th round, the fight gets stopped shortly after.
Man, I’m like everyone else - lurv the Bomber but without bias, this could definitely go either way Not completely the same complexion but somewhat similar to how I view a Louis vs Ali fight playing out. As much poison as Ali and Holmes type fighters might seem for Joe - well. I think the poison cuts both ways. Deontay Wilder is the Bronze Bomber, right? Joe is the one and only Brown Bomber. If we subbed Wilder in for Louis, well….that’s an entirely different call altogether……
