Alex has been down this road before and still comes back to win belts. even in Glory or ufc. He's lost to some names in kb no one has ever heard of but i think he knows its just a part of the game, would not surprise me that he ends up rematching and winning it back, it's not like there is anyone besides Alex for him. Maybe he fights Jan again or the guy that Jan is fighting (Carlos Ulberg.) High chance if i was betting that we haven't seen the last of Poatan.
easy fight to call. Perria literally did nothing to win one round. The announcers were up to their usual ****. His leg is chewed up, hes limping....you see him switching to southpaw thats cuz his legs hurt. NO No and no. The champ didnt do **** to win one round. But what did ankalaev do? A little more then perria every round. Easy night.
Id bet a medium bag that he never is champion again. Like I said the stars aligned for him for his previous run, doubt it happens again. And if he rematches Ank will look pretty much the same, imo. In all honesty his best bet is to probably leave UFC before his auras gone completely and go get knocked out in boxing for a big bag. Imo. Either that or try to get a high profile fight with the loser of DDP vs Chimaev and bring them up to his weight where he can hope to impose his size and power on them, as thats a big money fights as well. Fighting Jan at this stage of their careers is pretty meh, imo.
he wobbled him in rnd 2 like izzy , came close, i think Alex landed a head kick that put him in brief stun state, this fight needs a rematch imo , it was not enough for me.
Yeah, even though I was really looking forward to it and it was anticlimactic I'd still like to see an immediate rematch to see how it would play out the next time because Poatan would have to be more aggressive
I didnt think it was that one sided. a few adjustments can sway it the other way. His takedown defense held up fine, he was cage stalled. I really dont think it's enough to say its over for him in lhw. If he got sparked clean out , sure. It's just the judges gave it a ud. Ank winning 3/2 rounds means a different judge could have scored it split dec. I think Poatan only said he would fight mw, but that could have been for a glory thing, holding two belts at the same time. He probably wants the belt back and then move back down, we'll see.
The Pereira problem wasn't easy to solve:- - Destructive Calf kick - Size - Decent takedown defense - Power in pretty much any strike from any limb that can hurt even the sturdiest of chins. - A wide array of strikes keeping the opponents cautious at all times. Pereira didn't lose because he was overrated, he lost because Ankalaev had the skillset to implement the right gameplan.
Only reason he won 2 rounds is because hes a popular brazilian. He literally lost every round. Ankalaev did just a little more each round.
I thought it was pretty one sided overall. Ank set the pace, landed most of the actually significant strikes, wobbled him multiple times, had him on backfoot almost all fight, threw more strikes, landed more strikes, ect ect. But anyways... rooting for Alex so hope youre right. Lets see how plays out.
Only problem is Pereira is 37. He will probably never attain elite level grappling. But yeah, atleast Ankalaev has given him a few things to work on.
