Folks, I am placing this "Whitaker-Bojorquez" fight / fiasco from 2001 in the General Forum BECAUSE the overall bout is NOT a classic at all; it was a bomb.... atsch:shock: What the hell happened in that fight?:huh Pernell Whitaker was age 37 and bloated at 155 soft pounds against a unheralded Carlos Bojorquez on ESPN.... :bbb Pernell Whitaker was noticeably older and slower than ever before, plus, easy to hit by 2001..... :| Carlos Bojorquez was in-shape, and he came to fight, but he was thought NOT to be in the same class as Whitaker.... :bart Q: How did Pernell Whitaker tear up his shoulder so quickly / early on in a "Sparring" match type of ESPN fight??? He was definitely "damaged goods" by then, or just old and miles past his best. He'd already slipped some in the late 90s. I never bothered to watch this bout though. Don't really have much interesting in seeing a legendary fighter at the end of his career finally get stopped....due to a shoulder injury.
The fight sucked..... It was a sparring match..... It appeared after round 2, Whitaker strolled back to his corner rubbing his shoulder...... Come round 3, he was solely jabbing...... Whitaker quit seconds into the 4th stanza...... I saw the fight live on ESPN back in 2001 when I was living up in Illinois.... But I just got a copy due to an ESPN replay the other night.... Whitaker did fight like he was 137 yrs old........... MR.BILL
:yep I thought that too.......... Perhaps Whitaker thought Carlos Bojorquez was just a *****? Bojo showed up in great shape looking to fight.......... No, actually he didn't quit. He ****ed up his shoulder in the second round (by which point he was out-classing Borjorquez), and from that point on couldn't really do **** other than avoid punches. It was very obvious when they went to work on it in the 4th that he was in real pain. His reaction to a simple touch showed it all, and that's when the fight doctor (or his corner, can't recall exactly which) called it off. What is the point of this thread anyway? To question Whitaker's authenticity?
Anybody who actually saw the fight would know Sweet Pea wanted to continue, but that damned Doctor was cold as hell lol he gave his shoulder a real hard poke, and as Pernell winced in pain, he just said the fights over, and walked off lol.

when you get old...your body falls apart..especially in boxing..the wear and tear these guys put on themselves over a career
That was not Whitaker, It was the artist formaly known as.... Bojorquez has a W w/Whitaker next to it.....Now that's injustice.
