Those pretending Whitaker has a superior resume to Floyd are living in a fantasy land, unless you're counting getting dominated by Tito as a resume builder. At 135, I think Whitaker would win the first half and Floyd would win the second, making it a close fight. 140 and up, I take Floyd.
Whitaker is actually the more complete fighter in terms of skills. Mayweather when really pressed goes into defense mode and then actually sacrifices his offense. Whitaker is more scoring oriented than Floyd. That's why I think Whitaker wins a convincing UD by outworking Mayweather. Once Mayweather realizes that Whitaker is difficult to hit he may open up then start getting tagged. Which then causes him to lower his workrate to prevent Whitaker from scoring. Mayweather is a "do not get hit first" type of fighter. Whereas Whitaker is a more multifaceted fighter who is comfortable scoring points and landing while at the same time having his defense flow organically in the fight.
Mind of funny how fmj losses every single fantasy fight no matter how much better he is than any hypothetical opponent. Fmj@15 owned pea in the gym numerous times. Pea knows how badly he'd lose to fmj
Yeh i think most people including myself forgot they sparred while floyd was in the olympic team and alot of people said he was getting the better of sweet pea. I mean theres no footage but i dont think anyone on peas end ever tried to denythat
This forum rates Mayweather at about the same place as Stevie Johnston because they're both defined by their "loss" to Castillo.
Sparring is not boxing. You're trying to imply that an Olympic little boy version of Floyd beats a prime Whitaker. Mayweather beat Castillo in the first fight. Castillo doesn't have a case for a victory or a draw as far as I'm concerned. Mayweather loses to: Leonard Hearns Napoles Duran Whitaker (60-40 in Whitaker's favour IMO, not exactly a certainty is it) Evenly matched with prime versions of: DLH, Pac Beats literally everybody else. How much more credit does he need to be given? Those who he loses to are in my Top 10 H2H of all time.
Yea and tiny 122 pounder Erik Morales busted up Mayweather with power and then Mayweather stormed out of the gym never to return and see Erik again. The same fans who ***** about the "just sparring" ass whipping that Erik gave Floyd with heavy power shots want to talk about FMJ sparring Whitaker. Hypocritical as ****.
It's not enough for you unless I say I have Floyd's left nut in my mouth whilst tickling the other. MayPac was an 8-4 fight, with many rounds won by Mayweather that were on the basis of a light jab or two, maybe one shot with a lack of sting to it - it was ultra-competitive. Is it blasphemy to say a prime Pacquiao would've won 2 more rounds? Pac was semi-shot, far worse off than Mayweather, and it was at a weight where Pac doesn't have the speed, power, athleticism etc. that he did before. Pac also became more of a boxer after KTFO6 and added the much needed predictability to his style. My argument is reasonable and logical, to deny it is to protect an irrational cult fandom on your part.
If anyone actually believes that a 15 year old Mayweather doesn't get just absolutely tooled by a prime Whitaker is a lost cause. This is MVC level stuff right here. You mean that a 15 year old teenager who is giving up like 20+ pounds is going to run circles around Whitaker? I can't believe that I just read that. It's not enough that a prime Mayweather could beat Whitaker now? But a teenage Floyd can do it too? That's Floydism.
This would of been a great fight. I would say however that these boards also seem to use old faded Floyd vs the absolute best version of whoever his hypothetical opponent is. Floyd'a genuinely exciting prime was such a long time ago now that people act like it never existed.
Trust me im completely in the sparring is sparring camp but if both guys are fight ready and peaking i think its certainly something to take onboard. I just went and watched the interview where floyd is asked about sparring wth whitaker and the interviewer states he heard it was pretty easy work for floyd from what he heard, may grins and basically just states he dont wanna talk down on champions that paved the way for him etc etc I highly doubt pernell would be easy work for any fighter though
Whitaker was of the finest fighters in the world at that time. You think he's going to get in there and try and bust a 15 year old? I mean come on, he's not going to beat up a kid. Mayweather Jr. was nothing to him.
