As long as we're talking fantasy fights, let's take Cooney away from King, and give him to someone who can see something other than dollar $igns. King mishandled Cooney terribley. With proper management and promoting Cooney had the potential to become a damn fine champion. Unfortunately the people around him couldn't see pa$t the dollar$ they could make off a great white hope, and instead of a hope, they built a hype!
Because he would be right there to hit. Cooney was ewasy to hit. Go watch Cooney-Forman. Cooney couldnt even take Big Georges jabs. And that was an old big George.
Cooney had a 13 month layoff before Holmes and had only gone like 2 rounds in 3 years. The Cooney that fought Norton was more prepared than the Cooney that fought Holmes. Cooney was also mentally fragile and would **** himself in the pants at the staredown against either Klitschko. Cooney was just not that good he just happened to be an exciting KO puncher in a boring/weak Heavyweight era.
Cooney was not promoted or managed by Don King. He was managed by Mike Jones and Dennis Rappaport and fought under a promotional company called Tiffany Promotions at the time.
If Cooney couldn't deal with Holmes' jab or Spinks' jab either, Klitschko would have him beaten to a bloody pulp in 7 rounds.
cooney had a great left hand but nothing else. the guy got ko'd by light-hitting michael spinks. the klits would crush cooney; one-dimensional and a glass jaw.
Goes down to Heavy weights Vs Super Heavy weights. The Klits are the best Super Heavy weights ever. Just sucks for the heavy weights that there isn't that division in the Pro's.
The joke of the "great white hope" has made people forget how good a fighter Cooney was before the drugs!!
He'd brutally shatter Wlads glass jaw; Wlad can't beat good fighters his own size; without a big height and reach adv. he loses most of his game. Vit would be more intersting.
