You'd think someone with an amateur career like Pulev's would know better than to make the mistakes he did tonight, and have better defense. More proof of the amateurs not meaning ****, I guess.
He got shots, but nobody was saying he was (whoever he fought's) biggest test in a long time. We know there was guys in the 90's that got shots, who may not have been as good as Pulev. There's average guys in every weight class that get shots. But we've had Lepai, and then this guy was supposed to be a real challenge. He was considered in many circles as a really good fighter, and a big step up in class. He wasn't. Now we've got guys on here saying he'd have handled Lewis and Tyson etc with ease. That's why the win needs putting into perspective.
The greatest of all time, Ali, was knocked silly by a fighter that would today be a cruiser (Hank Cooper) and was a fringe contender besides. Don't bother to deny it...Angelo Dundee admitted openly to splitting the glove to buy time out of fear. Larry Holmes lost twice to a LHW. Holyfield was a cruiser, and had one of his toughest heavyweight fights against a cruiser (Bert Cooper) Marciano, Joe Frazier, and host of others would be cruisers today. Haye was a cruiser, if you didn't know. And on, and on, and on. Just stop with the double standards.
I think its also testament to Pulev's lack of ring IQ and the horrendous quality of his team/trainer. He needs to fire his trainer and start from zero. He has zero defense, no head movement whatsoever. Povetkin would feast on him. Heck even Wilder could land a big hayemaker on him with a little luck.
I agree. My point wasn't directed at you personally. It's to the guys who think that Pulev was one of the best fighters in the division, and that Wlad had a great win tonight.
I'm not sure where you are getting this 'toughest test' non-sense from? Those people are clearly delusional. Nobody was saying that about Pulev neither, unless they're crazy or trolling. He was just another random contender who was a 1 in 6 underdog.
Brittard , you should just read your old posts and disappear. You're a dumbest piece of brittarded material ,that I have ever seen.
I rate Povetkin as very good. I think he would have troubled a few past greats. He's fast, has excellent hand speed, great work rate. He's small by today's comparisons but 40+ years ago he could have mixed it up with the best.
Pulev has zero reflexes and head movement. Thus he's is vulnerable to one of these long, telegraphed wide windmill hayemakers by Wilder. I'd see Pulev as the favorite, but I'd give Wilder a 30% chance to score a one-punch upset thanks to Pulev's weaknesses.
How weak was the 50s? Or the 80s? Compare them to today's division and then tell me again how today is weak.
Well FFS... You have the unmitigated gaul to show up here after all your prognostications? Or will you tell us like you did with Haye that you never predicted defeat for the big Ukranian ? Have you no shame ? At long last, have you no fu ckin' shame whatsoever ?
