Peter said he would knock McCline out early, he had to depend on Don King to get a decision.

Peter in not an American citizen.

    Maskaev is an American citizen.

Check the archives, don't you remember talking about Oleg "I'm Russian Now" Maskaev, back when he went to Russia to fight Peter "Who?" Okhello.
After previously declaring how American he was leading up to, and following his fight with Rahman, he did an about face and told journalist he was Russian now, and didn't want to answer questions about his previous declaration of being a proud American.

He's American when he has something to sell to Americans. I don't even consider his dual citizenship sincere, because he doesn't honor both countries at the same time.

    Sam Peter by impressive stoppage.

Something that most people will never realise is that McCline and Maskaev couldn't be more different. Sure they both have power but one has never had issues with taking punches. One has extremely good hand and footspeed for his size and one is much bigger and much more unpredictable, fighting out of clinches and using the body off technique to land solid punches.

Look, Maskaev isn't garbage. He is a solid orthodox Eastern heavyweight. But he has more flaws than he has good points. Rahman has had issues beating Maskaev because physically and stylistically, he does not match up well with the Russians. He's too lumbering and too stamina deficient to compete with these guys. Plus he has an easy to dent chin and a willingness to eat right hands. That's a bad combination against someone like Maskaev who will try and last rounds and eventually outlast you.

Sam Peter is also not Hasim Rahman. Sam Peter will come out guns blazing and his handspeed will be noticeably better than Rahman from the outset. Sam Peter physically is just a monster. He takes a huge punch, delivers a huge punch and when he has his man hurt he goes nuts to get the knockout. For a guy like Maskaev who has had issues absorbing power in the past, this is not good for him. Lets also not forget that the guys who hurt Maskaev were able to hit him with left hooks and right hands upstairs in unpredictable fashion. And that is something that Sam Peter can get done. Sometimes his left hooks are wild, and sometimes the right hands will come from inside a clinch. Either way, he is gonna crack Maskaev on his head eventually. Right in that sweet spot where Corey Sanders and Lance Whitaker got him. And Maskaev will go down.

You see, Sam Peter is just not like Rahman. He doesn't stay behind a jab to set up a right hand all night. He isn't afraid to lead with a left hook. Remember what happened when Kirk Johnson led with a hook on Maskaev? It was the beginning of the end for Oleg.

Maskaev as said before is just too orthodox to win this fight. He's not gonna body Sam Peter off to land these little fast powershots like McCline does. He isn't that kind of guy. McCline didn't have much of an amateur career so he's a bit wild. You don't really know what to expect. So people expecting Maskaev to do what McCline did are going to be in for a disappointment. Furthermore Maskaev does not have a stellar chin, or head should I say. For as easy as he is to hit, he does not take a punch all that well. And that spells danger against an unpredictable puncher like Sam Peter. Another guy who like Mount Whitaker and Corey Sanders, doesn't have much experience. It's guys like this who fight unpredictable, fast pace sporadic fights. And with that kind of power being thrown around it's easy to see Maskaev losing by KO.

    Maskaev is an American citizen.

Now much money has Peter given to Nigerian children?

Nice analysis, another factor that McCline had going for him was the amount of fear he had in that fight... he fought wide-eyed and jumpy, fighting with almost a fear for his life in the ring.
He also had a short time to prepare, and he had to fight one of the most feared HW out there.

In comparison, OLEG is just now mustering the courage to face Sam. While it may have been possible for Maskaev to fight with the kind of fear that McCline had, had he shown up one of the first times they were supposed to fight...it's now possible that time (and the McCline performance) has made OLEG less concerned about his prospects of victory. This may be a mistake, afterall a large amount of fear was needed for WLAD to get by Sam, as he ran, jabbed, and grabbed his way to victory in that bout.

What the hell are you talking about? And furthermore, how is this relevant to the fight itself?

Very good post, similiar to what I been saying to all the Peter haters, you just used more examples and words to do it. If Peter does lose, I will be shocked, Maskaev is made for Peter, and should end up being an easy knockout victim for him, as long as Peter comes in shape and ready to come out guns a blazing, look for an early knockout folks.

It's just a race against time. Vitali or Vlad will murder Peter in the ring, but will Don King allow him to fight either of them? Not on your life.

Oleg "I'm Russian Now" Maskaev is a disgrace...this is an old topic, Maskaev's own words kill your position. There was a fightnews article on it back then...

Go to the guys Wiki page man, there's a quote for you right there...

In the run-up to his title defense against Peter Okhello, he stated regarding his citizenship: "Russian. I don't want to talk about that anymore. I will walk to the ring under the Russian flag and Russian anthem as I'm now a Russian citizen."

Don't worry, Don King and the WBC are doing everything they can to insure that Peter wins that fight.

There's just too many reasons as to why Peter will beat Oleg. There's Oleg's age, inactivity, injuries, and most important his chin. Oleg is too stationary to stay out of range. At some point, and probably early, he will get hit and I don't think he'll deal with it well. Peter by k.o, probably within 6-7 rounds.
