At no point was Kelly beating Martinez, and I was rooting for Kelly that night.

With regard to the topic at hand, I think Pirog would be a very tough fight for Sergio.

Sturm may have been a better boxer than Pirog at his best, but he hasn't been the same fighter since losing to Castillejo years ago. He's been gradually fading ever since. While Golovkin on the other hand is very crude and one-dimensional. I personally would rate Pirog a level above Sturm and Golovkin both.

Ah, ok then - hadn't seen your card posted earlier in the thread.

Martinez swept the first five. Pavlik came on in 6-8. (and of course Maravilla closed the show in 9-12).

So giving Pavlik the extra point, you get 116-111 for Martinez in the end - and 76-75 for Martinez through eight (still winning, and at no point behind).

Also, your given scoring method is very odd. You're basically giving round totals (1-0, 1-1 etc., instead of the typical ten point must convention of 10-9, 19-19, etc.) yet wtf happened there in round 7 on your card? :huh

You go from 3-3 through six, to 5-3 through seven. That isn't how knockdowns work. Scoring a knockdown isn't like winning a whole extra round. It's more like half a won round. A won round is a two point swing. A knockdown is a one point swing. That would properly be written (wrong as the scoring is) 4-3 Pavlik plus a knockdown point through 7...or in the more accepted form, 67-65 Pavlik.

Anyway, the point you're attempting to make is that Pirog would win based on what you see as a very depleted, much less than 100% Pavlik "beating him" IYO. (even though Pirog and Pavlik fight nothing alike).

It's not a great point. Yes, Pirog should be given a healthy amount of respect in a match-up with Martinez - but it isn't for the reasons you highlight (which have more to do with a low opinion of Martinez's ability than a high one of Pirog's)

Pirog would probably beat the Pavlik of that night (I say probably only because of how many straight right hands Gennady Martirosyan landed on him and got him minding his p's and q's with...and of course even a depleted Pavlik hits about three times harder, as strong as the dwarf is), and honestly either Martinez or Pirog could probably move up to 168 right now and defeat Pavlik as he looked against Lopez.

Martinez vs. Pirog is not a mismatch either way - and Pavlik is irrelevant in analyzing them against each other.

    Of the three,

Sturm has the best jab. (by far)

Golovkin has the best punch. (by far)

Pirog has the slickest style. (by far)

    I'd love to see a round-robin.

Prior to the sixth round, Pavlik was bullying Martinez?

Pirog is not qualified to fight Sergio Martinez. Pirog isn't a welter or junior welter, therefore, no fight.

I love Pirog the guy has some nice skills. Damn shame HBO or Showtime won't show a fight of his. They need to sign the guy.

I'm afraid in addition to being slick you have to be black otherwise it gets you nowhere

Kind of like only using one paddle in a rowboat

Those are not even my score cards they are score cards I found online that I copied and pasted. I cant find a score card online that even shows Sergio up in the fight till after Pavlik was badly cut in the 9th. And I had Pavlik up after 8 rounds also by at least one point.

The scoring in that second card I posted is just taking a 10-9 round as a 1-0 and a 10-8 round as a 2-0. They are adding up the points that way maybe cause they find it easier I am not sure. The 7th round Pavlik won the round and had a knock down making it a 10-8 or on that score card a 2-0. Pavlik on the first score card I posted was up by 1 point going into the 9th. On the second score card Pavlik was winning by 3 points going into the 9th.

The point I am trying to make is just because Sergio beat Pavlik does not mean he is better then Pavlik. Pavlik was badly cut in the 9th round effecting his vision he was winning the fight before he was cut bad in the 9th. He was also in rehab during his training camp and had to kill himself to make weight. My point is Sergio is overrated and a lot of people think Pirog does not have a good chance against Sergio but I think Sergio is not that good. He is not bad but he is nothing special.
