Play by Play: Jim Lampley

I rate announcers by how well I can tune them out. Lamps is right up there with the best. I rarely am forced to focus on anything he says. Teddy Atlas and Al Bernstein are worse, since they hog the camera so much they literally force me to pay attention to them. Not good. The all time worst of course was Howard.

 

Good point, I never thought about it that way, but that makes sense. Especially with atlas.

I like his energy, one of the best in that regard. What I don't like is that he sometimes miscalls a "play".

 

His voice hurts my ears so 2/10. No but seriously he's alright. Not the best but passable.

 

Yea he can get annoying at times but his play by play game is sick its actually tough to replicate because you can tell he loves the sports and that is something you cant teach. A better angle may be who is the closet you can get to Lampley?

Lampley is 100x the announcer than that MMA 'twit on Showtime!

 

I feel that Lamps is a company man and will call a lot of shots that actually miss. I can't stand the guy.

That said....I agree with Stefan Johnson above.

 

Barry Tompkins is light years better than both Lamps and Renallo.

 

I thought he was going to have a mental breakdown when Kneeguel took a knee.

 

Guys Johnson > Lamplie and the old drunk ******* (aka Merchant).
