I rate announcers by how well I can tune them out. Lamps is right up there with the best. I rarely am forced to focus on anything he says. Teddy Atlas and Al Bernstein are worse, since they hog the camera so much they literally force me to pay attention to them. Not good. The all time worst of course was Howard.
I like his energy, one of the best in that regard. What I don't like is that he sometimes miscalls a "play".
Yea he can get annoying at times but his play by play game is sick its actually tough to replicate because you can tell he loves the sports and that is something you cant teach. A better angle may be who is the closet you can get to Lampley?

I feel that Lamps is a company man and will call a lot of shots that actually miss. I can't stand the guy. That said....I agree with Stefan Johnson above.
