Before Alvarez goes anywhere near Mayweather, he needs to be up against someone who will make him fight at a pace that he doesn't want to fight at. Kirkland, maybe.
He gets mentioned because he comes to fight, out-slugs all of his opponents, the ref has to jump in and save his opponent most of the time and he is undefeated. And if he KO's Shane he will start making Floyd and Pacquiao look bad by finishing him when they couldn't.
How does that make any sense? I mean I want to see him face someone like that too but how is that relevant to PBF. Why would he need to figth someone like Kirkland to fight PBF? The styles couldnt be anymore different.
No, it makes sense if you read it properly. I wasn't stating that he needs to fight Kirkland in terms of a style sense, or that he needs to fight Kirkland to earn a shot at Mayweather. I was stating my opinion that, Alvarez has not had an opponent who MAKES him fight a fight he doesn't want to fight. This is what will happen up against Mayweather. He shouldn't (again, my opinion) jump at the chance to fight Mayweather too soon...especially when he doesn't have the experience at that level.
Alvarez is usually the aggressor, so I'm not sure why the pace of fighting is being questioned. Kirkland would just make it easier for him to get the knock out when he's walking straight at him. Alvarez throws power punches for twelve rounds and doesn't fade.
