Pongsaklek Wonjongkam - The Old School Champion

Pongsaklek Wonjongkam is the WBC and RING/Lineal Flyweight champion. I know its a different region but he is not content with just defending his title 3x a year.

He has already has 3 6 rounders in 2011.

Yeah but three fights against people with a combined record 2-7-0 is not the most challenging to him

but as you said he has had 3 6 rounders all ready this year this is what most young prospects should be diong

 

Yeah, but they're probably experienced Muay Thai fighters. He has an old school approach if nothing else, no one is giving him credit for taking on these fights (I think one of 'em ran him close recently as well!!!) just saying fair play for staying busy.

Ask ATG flyweight Venice Borkorsor what can happen if a champ takes these fights easy!

He's keeping busy, as well as taking a few good fights a year. A lower end (15-20) ATG fly IMO.

A fight with Segura or Roman Gonzalez would be quality.

 

Be cool for him to retire with 100 wins.

 

Be cool for him to keep adding quality wins to the resume. Series with Naito was epic.

it keeps him thresh for the big fights

does anyone no why he is fight so much as he only had the usual three fights last year

 

I really like Wonjongkam, a great fighter. Him vs segura would be a top class match up for me. I think I would slightly favour Pongsaklek but he'd have to be wary of segura's massive right hooks when leading off because Kameda caught him quite a bit with them. I think he should be able to use his superior jab and beautiful straight left to keep Segura off him and that would be half the battle. Segura would be favourite if he got him into a battle but I think Wonjongkam has enough skills to keep him at distance

Cant see the point of him fighting guys with losing records in between his title defense, he seems to active enough defending his title three times often anyways. maybe its to get to 100 wins or something, but i dont really think its worth it.

Reckon it's better to have a stacked record with the odd stand out name, or a smaller record with more stand out names?

Obviously the ideal is a full record with legends littered throughout but that's unlikely to happen...

This guy deserves a bit of attention. Anybody that gets to 80 fights and is a world champ, even if a lot of them weren't the best, deserves some kind of kudos for that.

Class fighter too.
