I think Tyson was a terrible match up for Walcott ... Joe was very tricky but he did not have the greatest chin in the world and Tyson would catch him and put him out like he did Tubbs ... The Tyson of the second Bruno fight does him in ...

Yeah, im kinda surprised i'm the only one that threw this one out there. If he gets past those 5 rounds in the beginning there's no way I don't see this as the only possible outcome. Walcott's movement and power, as well as feints and mental game would really cut into Tyson's stamina.

Well, let's see what each fighter brings to the ring.

Tyson came back in 1995 and up until 2001 he had never fought over 225 Lbs. Post-prison he faced-

    McNeeley WDQ1

    Mathis KO3

Bruno KO3 (Wins the WBC HW title)

Seldon KO1 (Wins WBA HW title)

    Holyfield LKOby11

    Holyfield LDQ3

    Botha KO5

Norris NC1 (Tyson hit Norris while he was down and Norris could not conitnue due to an injured knee)

    Francis KO2

    Savarese KO1

Golota NC3 (was a KO win for Tyson but he tested positive for marijuana)

After the Golota fight Tyson fought at a weight over 230 Lbs. in all of his remaining fights except 1. He went just 2-3 (2) in his last 5 fights and was stopped 3 times.

Walcott finally won the HW title in his 5th try. He was 37 years old and at that time the oldest man ever to win the HW title. I honestly feel that Walcott was as good as ever toward the end of his career or at least very close to being as good as he ever was. He had the occasional loss sprinkled throughout all parts of his career, not just at the end.

    Walcott beat-

Elmer Ray 2 out of 3 (stopping him once, the loss was by SD), Curtis Sheppard W8 and KO10, Joe Baksi W10, Steve Dudas KO5, Lee Q. Murray WDQ9, Jimmy Bivins W10, Lee Oma W10, Joey Maxim 2 out of 3 (all decisions), and Harold Johnson KO3 among others.

In HW World title fights he faced-

Joe Louis LSD15 (even Louis felt Walcott won) and LKOby11

    Ezzard Charles L15 x2, KO7, and W15

    Rocky Marciano LKOby13 and LKOby1

Walcott is a little taller with a longer reach at 6' about 200 Lbs. and a 74" reach. Tyson is about 20 Lbs. heavier.

The big question is how would Tyson do in the late rounds? He lasted until the early parts of round 11 vs. Holyfield but was pretty much done in the 10th. Even pre-prison this was somewhat of a concern. Yes, he won decisions from Tillis, Green, Smith, and Tucker but once those fights reached a certain point it seemed clear that there would be no KO. He did stop Renaldo Snipes in round 10 prior to winning his first world title. Post-prison he also lasted late into the 8th round vs. Lewis but was done well before that point. He did stop Nielsen in the 7th round.

Now, Walcott was strong but I think Holyfield was stronger. Walcott was a good overall boxer and wouldn't stand and trade as much as Holyfield did. Walcott was a good puncher. Walcott was durable but Holyfield was more durable. Walcott dropped Marciano in the 1st round. He dropped Louis several times. He stopped Charles and Johnson among others.

I see Walcott outboxing Tyson in some of the rounds. I also see Walcott landing some good shots, even rocking Tyson. I see Tyson hurting Walcott worse than Walcott hurts him though. In the end I think Tyson stops Walcott in the 9th or 10th round. Tyson will have one eye swollen shut and the other will have a cut under it. His mouth will be bloody and he'll be very tired.

After Tyson's hand is raised he'll praise Walcott.

Jersey Joe is a tiny 194lbs dude who KO'd less than half of his tiny sub-190lber foes, and came up from 165lbs (below supermiddle), even fighting at 158lbs (below middleweight) check his record! Walcott does not have the pop to KO a rock-chinned 222lbs muscular menace like Tyson. Nostalgia is rife in the history forum. :deal

You are not rock chinned if you are knocked out 5 times in your career. End of.

Depends, How many times youve been knocked out isnt really a measure of your chin.

How many punches you can take before going down is a more accurate measure.

The only time Tyson was truly Kod was against Lennox Lewis.

He finished Douglas/Holyfield fights on his feet.

Indeed. But if chin is indeed a product of durability(how many flush shots you can take) and stamina (the ability to recover from punches and come back from knockdowns and big damage)...You cannot rate Tyson that highly. What I'm saying is that a stellar boxer with a good punch could certainly wear Tyson down.

The most depressing thing about boxrec warriors is that they are not even particularly good at using boxrec.

For example, if you wanted to know how old Walcott was when he weighed in at 165lbs then boxrec would tell you that and put the information into perspective.

"Tiny" Walcott was not realy any smaller than the cruiserweight version of Evander Holyfield. Also, as a defensive fighter you would not expect him to have a high KO percentage.

It also dosn't take a lot of nostalgia to pick a top 20 all time heavyweight over the post prison version of Tyson.

Walcott may have only been 195lb, but he was a RIPPED 195lb
