I think his resume, opposition and results, is greater than all other active fighters spare a couple at the most.
Their accomplishments. And the quantity that reach a certain level. If you followed Flyweight and the neighboring divisions at the time, you would be as enthusiastic as I am. He fought a "who's who." His list of former and future world titlists and top 10 ranked beaten is pure insanity.
I didnt follow it and just on paper it looks real thin this is why whenever I see talk of him I look for people to break it doen for me.
Oh dude its a gauntlet. He has about 20+ legit names. And not faded has beens or fringe guys. We are talking 20 former/future titlists and top 10 ranked fighters. Many in prime and many who would go on to those achievements. His resume is so impressive you can actually laugh while going through it because it doesnt seem real and he was so unappreciated. Nobody currently out there compares to him, I do mean it.
Juan diaz was once one of the world's most conditioned athletes- he had to be, throwing all those punches...throw in Sam Soliman, as an old man had better stamina then most younger than him. Thanks to hard work and discipline. Also, whenever Acelino Popo Freitas lost, they would parade around the ring like it was some type of celebration.
I agree with 2 out of 3. Wilder is not the worst heavy to hold a belt lol. Good call on Canelo. Also Floyd is example of scorekeeping going right.
I'll give a hot take on each of boxrec top 5 p4p 1. Canelo - he's not far off surpassing Mayweathers resume and he's risked way more Ls than Floyd as he's not waiting until they are old, or taking them when they are green. 2. Crawford - even if he went to Haymon, the Spence fight would never happen 3. Fury - Wilder should not have been able to land a glove on him, let alone drop and hurt him. Wilder is a Heavyweight Randall Bailey, all he has is power in one shot. The truly elite wouldn't get hit with it all night. 4. Usyk - I believe he beat Gassiev so easily because Gassiev was badly injured going into the fight and his left shoulder was already fooked 5. Joshua - i think he's become the Heavyweight version of Keith Thurman, starts of looking like a big puncher, tried to add boxing to his game. But can't spring it together naturally and is arguably a worse fighter for it.
I dont know man I m not seeing it.Maybe I am too ignorant for the whole scene back then. Take for example his first title defence in 2001 in Hayato Asai. The guy never had a string of inpressive victories, had no quality wins and was coming in after being stopped by Kobayashi. He retired shortly after. His next title defense against ghanian Baba-same thing.Guy was a career stepping stone.
