Does anyone who is a recovering has-been trying to pretend to be in his prime, who is over 30, married, has three kids, and has not accomplished anything of note in about five years go to the gym for fun.

You arent out of your prime. We're not women.

It's not so much fun as it is determination for your own goals. You can feasibly work yourself into tremendous physical condition and maintain it through your 50s. I wouldnt do it for any other reason than yourself - married or single, kids or no kids. Gotta want it. Although I dont know what it is to not have volcanic test levels. :verysad
