So, Garrus. You're a good authority on this. Is Bioshock about Mass Effect quality? It doesn't seem like it'll be a character-based game at all, so I won't be forging completely fabricated yet wonderfully endearing friendships (that may or may not have caused a few tears to be shed and deep rage to emanate) with epic characters like Mordin or Garrus, but can it compete with it on the whole? It's a damn atmospheric game. I've been ****ing spooked for most of the brief time I've played it.

The Mass Effect series is the most impressive thing I've personally ever seen in gaming, and by some distance, so it's my go-to comparison for the really special ones I come across. Bioshock on par?

First off, add me on PS3.

It's nothing like Mass Effect but the quality of it is on par.

There will be moments that will be disgustingly beautiful, and one of my favorite moments of gaming is at the heart of this.

Character wise, Andrew Ryan is one of the best characters in recent video game history. His philosophy is a whole other discussion itself.

The atmosphere, as you touched upon yourself, is what truly makes this game and is what's it all about.

Also have you ever played the Metal Gear Solid series?

IMO, it's the greatest series of all time. No contest (like how you view Ali).

It has some of the most tragic characters in all of Video Game history (Grey Fox, Ocelot, Solid Snake) but one stands out in particular.

I don't have a PS3, man! I have brief and occasional access to one.


I hardly ever actually did anything when I was playing the Mass Effect games. Skyrim, as well (which I was also late to). I got this feeling that Bioshock will be something similar. I get hooked real easily. It's why I try to avoid them.


As for Metal Gear, I've played one, and that was a long time ago. Don't know which, but it had that Psycho Mantis dude in it. That's the only thing I can vividly remember about the game, because fighting him was crazy. It's a really early gaming memory for me, but still there. From back in the long, long ago.

If their that damn good I might have to work my way through them, but man, that's a lot to get into. Dozen or so games, right? A lot going on there.

 

So you have a 360 as your main console?

Or is the "brief and occasional access" PS3 what you play all your games with?

Either way get yourself the MGS HD Collection.

It comes with MGS2, MGS3, and Peace Walker (originally a PSP exclusive) all redone in HD. It also comes with the original Metal Gears, first found on the MSX back in the 80's.

So basically 5 games for like $40, maybe $30 if you search around.


If the PS3 is what you really you play with you can buy MGS1, where that Psycho Mantis battle is from, for 10 bucks.

Those two can only be found on PS3 though.

So 7 games. Oh and Metal Gear Solid: ground Zeros is being released next year.

360, yeah. When I say, "Brief and occasional," I mean maybe 2 or 3 times a month, an hour or so each time.

I am buying that HD collection though. Sometime soon. We'll see about the others after that. I'll probably get back to you on all of this in about 5 years.

Got to ride out Bioshock for the time being.

 

Man, Darnell Wilson has been in a slump. The man could crack, and he even posted here for a good while. I feel kinda bad that an ex-ESB' er has fallen on such hard times.
