That's a lot of money to turn down for 1 fight. I doubt he'd make that much unifying against Wlad based upon his current popularity and Wlad's tendency to be tough in negotiations. He made $2 million for a Vegas fight with Stiverne so he won't earn much more per defence unless Haymon as secured a deal with HBO to guarantee him more which seems unlikely as the viewing figures were good but nothing out of the ordinary. Wlad, Povetkin and Haye are really the only proven draws at heavyweight that could net him a big payday so his options are limited in terms of opponents that would earn him a better payday than he got against Stiverne. He might regret turning this down he can only defend against easy opposition for so long before a mandatory will be enforced and he could then lose his title.
Either way, they won't be able to run forever if Povetkin defeats Perez in May. If Povetkin becomes the mandatory, Wilder is likely coming to Russia whether his people like it or not.
Who would be stupid enough to go fight in the most corrupted country on the planet? You sure that wasn't 10millions rubles? ROFL
Povetkin is a similar fight for Wilder as Striverne. Povetkin will have the same problems he had againts Wilder as he did with Wlad. He's too short and not long enough to bother Wilder. Wilder by UD ro late TKO. Now Furry is who I want to see Wilder face next.
Povetkin would shatter me into a million pieces. :rofl No wonder Wilder's team doesn't want this fight. :deal
There is a difference with Wilder. Povetkin didn't have huge problems with Wlad's size, he was able to get on the inside, he was just smothered when he did. Wilder hasn't shown he can clinch like Wlad can, it's a skill that has to be learned. Also Wlad is far heavier and stronger than Wilder, even if Wilder does clinch no guarantee at 219lbs he'll have the strength to prevent Povetkin from breaking free and then having his way on the inside. I think Fury is an easier fight for Wilder. Fury will fight at Wilders range and Fury doesn't have a good chin like Povetkin so Wilder beating Fury to the punch and stopping him is always possible. But I'd be happy with Wilder facing Povetkin or Fury, though Wilder won't make anywhere near $10 million for facing Fury.
...and so it begins Wilder's disgraceful ducking of top opposition and milking of the title, i mean everybody should have seen this coming
Then why doesn't he accept 10x his career high purse to fight Povetkin? It's not like it's justifiable to turn it down.
Fury is way to string for Wilder and just as big. Wilder did a great job of smothering Stiverne's in the last round. Wilder can fight on the inside unlike Wlad but he can smother as well. Povetkin will get beat to the punch and Wilder will be back out of range. He has a good jab and he has pop as well. I see a sustained beating for Povetkin if he fights Wilder.
