Teddy Atlas knows what he's doing. Remember, he made the headcase of headcases HW champion of the world...and I'm not talking about Tyson. If anyone knows the inner workings of a fighter, it's this guy.
I dont think Povetkins ready for a title fight face it Wlad would steam roll him dont forget that Wlad has a tendincy to ruin careers with his punches Povetkin is better suited to wait out the storm and let Vitali retire and fight a weak link for a belt or wait for Haye to retire which he promises is soon at 31 he is still in his prime and is hardly shop worn let him fight the adameks and arreollas and chagaevs for now
Atlas kept it real and doesnt play into the promotions/business aspect of the sport. Povetkin's manager and promoter are just mad about it because it makes Povetkin look bad and hurts his value they wanted to use Povetkin's dad as an excuse rather than "he's not ready and wants to feast on lower calibur fighters until Wlad or Vitali drops a belt for him to salvage" Povetkin's dad passed away in April and Klit/Povetkin was just made official in July before it got cancelled. If Povetkin was really bothered by his father's death he wouldnt have agreed to the biggest fight of his career in the first place. As a result Povetkin's ranking dramatically drops along with his market value and his manager & promoter are upset about it.
If you mean Moorer, Manny Steward deserves the credit. Atlas made sure every reporter wrote that Moorer was headcase, he was spreading stories about Moorer, as excuse in case Moorer lost or ****ed up on way to title shot. He inherted Moorer, after Duva and Benson had him for one bout (win over Bonecrusher Smith) As for Tyson, Cus let Atlas work corner few times, once while documentary film was made. Teddy had nothing to do with Tyson's development. In fact, who did Atlas ever develop?? Elvir Muqui and Shannon Briggs he got out of amateurs, and both had improved carreers after splitting with Atlas, who thought neither could improve.
Emmanuel Steward was the second trainer to give up on Moorer because of his "issues" until Teddy came into the picture and made Michael understand that, while Teddy was not to be disrespected, he fundamentally cared about his well-being. This facilitated a deep and enduring bond between the two that allowed Michael Moorer to finally put it all together and make the most of his talent against a guy that he probably shouldn't have beaten.
You really believe that??? Moorer won many amateur titles under manny steward, and pro title, then became top heavy contender before split. A "deep and enduring bond" sounds like it's from one of Atlas's reporter friends columns.
Atlas is a man that should be respected in all boxing circles. However not that I keep track but he is less than 41% in picking fights.
Atlas is not respected in boxing circles, e is liked by boxing writers and reporters. Big difference. He courted them from when he started, made friends with many, and that got him where he is, not any training ability or respect in boxing. As for Moorer, I don''t believe he considers Teddy a father figure for a second. Unless he is that far gone.
