damn :yep I didn't realize Canelo had that type of draw. I'm still a little unsure how the fight will sell tbh, but comparing it to the Cotto fight it has a few things going for it. Canelo is a unique guy who can bring in a bigger mexican fanbase compared to the Puerto Rican fanbase. Canelo could tap into Oscar's fanbase. Plus casual fans are used to seeing Cotto just go into big fights just so he can be beat or be the B side guy. They'll actually look at Canelo as a real opponent I feel. Then of course you got The clash of the Undefeateds
lmao true. floyd/canelo is an easy sell though. the other day i said floyd does his best ppv numbers on cinco de mayo.
Wouldn't be surprised if it does the average of his last three on the date, which would be 1.78 -- but they might want to get it signed first. People think Floyd has to act crazy in the build-up and go way outside of himself to get people interested in his fights. He did nothing of the sort for Cotto. There was almost no "hype" at all outside of obligatory promotion. It was his biggest since DLH, a full five years afterward. Sure, The DLH fight opened the door, but there was no guarantee he'd blow up from it. He's responsible for his own staying power by now and he isn't going anywhere. His skills will make sure of it.
Very good numbers for the 4th fight. I expected the PPV buys to exceed a million but not by that much. Im guessing the 5th fight will go above 1.5 if Marquez doesn't decide to ride off into the sunset.
If you remember before the 4th fight between these two a lot of people were saying the same thing. Yet 1.15 million bought the fight anyway. It's good the 4th fight happened and I think even more people will end up buying the 5th fight. Manny and Pac have proven to be on each others level based on how close their fights have been. Even with the decisive ending to the last fight Juan still had to come from behind to score a very unlikely Knockout. The KO adds a new wrinkle to the promotion of a potential 5th encounter between these two rivals.
Not surprised it did well. Leading up to the fight, it was pretty quiet. However, in the day or two before my phone started blowing up and even some very casual fans I know ordered the fight.
Sounds like your prediction was way off. 750k in PPV buys would be realistic if Pac was fighting someone with the popularity of Josh Clottley, which is next to nothing. Juan has a strong following. I knew this fight would surpass a million even though a lot of people didn't support a 4th fight. Manny is still a big draw and Juan's stock just increased after that knockout. You'll definitely need to factor in that the next time you make a prediction on PPV for the 5th fight.
