I'd be more confident in the Fury of a few years ago. He doesn't really inspire me with confidence, at the moment, because it's hard to tell whether he's strong enough mentally to keep his concentration steady, throughout the physical challenge. However, while Fury is unpredictable, I do think he genuinely wants to win this. My doubts about him winning are rooted in the question of whether or not he can do 12 focused rounds, at an elevated level. Does he have the legs to evade and wrong-foot the athletic and aggressive Wilder, over the distance? It's also difficult to use Fury's recent, past results, for a couple of reasons, i.e. His long layoff, followed by a couple of very low-key warm ups that tell us nothing; his last big fight having been against an WK, who is not in any meaningful sense comparable to Wilder. Wilder is entirely confident in his power and I think his seeming lack of fundamentals is actually confusing to his, in the main, more conventional opponents, in terms of being able to defend and counter against his big punches. When I think of what this would mean to a less than 100% conditioned Fury, it leads me to consider that Wilder's aggression and disorganized attacks could win the day, at some point; probably, somewhere in the mid-rounds, 5 - 8.
A big factor will be which guy has the ringsmarts and tools to weather a storm. I think Fury has a nice healthy edge in the ringsmarts category. I tend to think he has more tools to weather a storm but that part of things remains a question mark. And can Wilder resort to his defensive abilities to kill say 90 seconds? But if say Fury weathers a storm, what happens after that? Does the Wilder parachute open? Does he get caught throwing another homerun punch attempting to do the same thing? If Wilder is hurt & survives, does Tyson Fury expend too much energy and loses his legs? Or drop his hands? Start fighting different bout and becomes far more aggressive? I am starting to think one of them is definitely hurt at some point in the fight. Which way will things go after that? Conditioning comes into play big time when it comes to weathering storms & Wilder has a real nice advantage in that department.
Look, I do not think this will be a war. Fury's intent will be to outbox him and avoid that right hand. If he is anywhere near the Klitschko shape, he will succed at that. Wilder never properly learnt the fundamentals of boxing. He is gonna have difficulties landing that right, given Fury's slick style and the height disadvantage.
Not since Ali has anyone been as crazy and convinced in themselves that they could win as Fury, however the time off was not spent the same way Ali's was & I really dont know the damage. So far back Fury has not reached the type of form or condition that he had when he beat Vlad K or stopped Chisora. Tyson's weight seems good but he will need to be elusive & will need to have some power to keep Wilder off. Wilder hits much harder than the tough Cunningham & has a quicker 2 fisted offense so this is a tough fight & conditioning may be the key to victory. IF IF IF Tyson can get into phenominal condition and be close to the form he was for Klitschko he may be able to follow up on some of the issues Wilder has that Ortiz exposed but he must be aware of the BOMB SQUAD
Although Tyson Fury has a couple of winning strategies like turning southpaw or fighting on the inside and leaning on. Ultimately I think he lacks the discipline under his fitness first trainer, to not get caught at some point and more than once throughout the fight. Also it’s clear that Furys two comeback fights are inadequate preparation and he is going to struggle to deal with wilder from an athletic perspective too. I pick Wilder via KO in the 6th round of this one.
Wilder really early eg a first or second round blow out or Fury by stoppage (corner retirement most likely) by the 10th. If Fury gets 2 or 3 rounds under his belt he will cruise this I think. Honestly this is Fury's fight to lose.
The quality of Wilder,Fury ,and Miller's resumes combined don't equal Joshua's! I predict Wilder ko's him and Fury takes his pension plan and promptly retires again!
Wilder had better book a plane to Holland straight after this fight, because when Fury leans all over him with the weight advantage he has he is going to tire badly and be stopped late on. His windmill will be broken so he needs to go get a better one....
I have a question. When was Fury suspended for PED use? Its plausible he was on something for some of his best victories.
Yeah, but I don't think Fury has Parkinsons. No way, his reflexes have diminished as much as Alis did between 1978 an 1980.
Agreed, Tyson's last fight was a glorified sparring session. Fury really depends on his height ,but in this fight I can see Wilder throwing a looping right hand that catches Fury on the side of the head hurting him. Even if he isn't ko'ed this will put him in total defense mode. I'd pick Wilder by KO, the round? any of them.
