Azumah Nelson was put in with not just a world champ but an all time great after a handful of fights, and although he lost, you got the impression that bout gave him the experience and composure of about 100 'normal' fights.

It all depends on the class of the fighter. Azumah nelson gave Salvador Sanchez the fight of his life in his 14th fight, got stopped learnt from it and went on to become a great.

Didn't Marvis Frazier end up getting pitched in with Larry Holmes after 10 fights or something? That was some ****ing hiding he got. Although, as distinctly average as Marvis was, it should be noted he only lost 2 fights in his pro career and they were to Holmes and Tyson. If you're going to lose then why not lose to two of the best of all time (and yes Holmes is up there in the mix for top 10 ATG Heavyweights1). Sure won't Wicky trot out the old line 'My only two losses were to Hall of Fame fighters' to prove how great his career was :good

Marvis Frazier had a degenerative eye condition at the time that was going to affect/ end his career sooner rather than later, so when when chance of a title shot came up they decided to take it. I don't remember Hatton being involved though...
