I honestly think if Pea were to let his hands go against Floyd he'd get KOed. Floyd is too accurate and just as fast. That would be a huge mistake.
who did sweet pea beat that was on the level of PBF alot of people discredit his gold because the cuban and the russian weren't in the olympics
Floyd could pressure Whitaker, but Whitaker was perhaps the best fighter ever at dealing with pressure from his opponents. Pressuring him would give Whitaker more opportunities.
The same could be asked about who has Mayweather beaten the caliber of Whitaker? Both have beaten good fighters but neither the caliber of eachother. I do think Mayweather is just a tiny bit better. Fighter close to Mayweather's caliber though are Chavez (draw), Mc Girt (he beat twice, (1st one with help from the judges IMO,), ODH (Whitaker lost but it was close), Trinidad (Whitaker got beat pretty comfortably but thought he won), Ramierez (Whitaker lost but probably should've won), Haugen (ok so Haugen not near Mayweathers caliber)and Vazquez. Mayweather closest caliber to Whitaker, Hatton, DLH, Judah, Castillio, Corrales and Manfredy (OK Mafredy no where near Whitaker's class).
Chavez and Nelson were great fighters. He also made prime Oscar look foolish at times. Also what does that have to do with anything?
atsch Where are you trying to go with this point, exactly? You disagree with me that Whitaker was far past his prime? Why should the fact that some people had an overly romanticised opinion on an old Whitaker mean anything to me? People thought Buster Douglas would be crushed by Tyson. People thought that Liston and Foreman would butcher Ali. MANY people thought that Lacy would beat Calzaghe. The majority opinion isn't always correct.
He never beat a "boxer" who was at Floyd's level. But this is a flawed point for anybody trying to say Floyd wins, because at the same time, who has Floyd beaten that was on the level of Sweet Pea?
I go back and forth on this all the time. These two are the two of the most talented fighters that I was able to witness fight. I know what Floyd's gameplan would be. He would trying to land that lead straight right all night, and would definately focus on Pea's body. Pea has a good jab and throws it alot. The key for him would be to not get lazy with that jab , and make sure he got it back near his chin quickly. Otherwise, Floyd will counter him with that straight right. I've said before that Pea would win a close decision, but this could go either way. I don't think Pea would have his usual high output in this fight because of Floyd's countering ability. I also don't think Floyd would be able to pressure Pea like he did Mitchell and Judah because of Pea's defensive ability and great ring IQ. In the end, we could very well see a relatively dull chess match in this one. If Pea is able effectively work off that jab, and stay focused on defense, he wins. If Floyd is able to land that right hand and make Pea weary of his body work, Floyd wins.
...and you must know very little about boxing. The more you throw the more chances your opponent has to counter you. Floyd is simply too fast and accurate to stand in there (without punching with alot of power) and throw a bunch of combos. Pea would be asking for a counter in that situation. That works very well against fighters you have an nice speed advantage against, but it doesn't work when the guy your fighting is just as fast and very accurate... and he's throwing with some power.
