Well, Brooklyn clearly knows a shitload about the sport. However, that guy does have a point. The more you punch, the more you leave yourself to be countered. Pea was arguably a better defensive fighter than Floyd, however his opponents had a higher connect rate and Pea was put on the canvas more times than Floyd. One of the reasons for this because Pea let his hands go more. There are two guys that I can remember constantly getting off 70+ a round against Floyd. N'Dou, and Chavez. Both were beaten up pretty badly and stopped. Obviously Pea would fare better. However, against a great counter puncher, with fast hands, and power in both hands; being too aggresive with your punch output is like playing with matches.
good anaylisis, while as i stated earlier in the thread i slightly fancy floyd to win if pea uses his jab effectively it makes it very difficult for floyd to win
Indeed however, Pea always had a high out put no matter who he was fighting and he could avoid punches whillst throwing a vast amount each round. He may not throw 1000 punches perhaps but he would have a significant workrate advantage and would be hit less by Floyd than any fighter Floyd has faced. Pernell's jab is the most important punch for him if he could land it with any consistancy then he would have an advantage. In the same token if Floyd can time his right it could be very important for him.
That's a good point. I don't think he would be getting off with 100+ punches a round like he sometimes did at lightweight, but I see him outworking Floyd and steadily pumping out the jab. Whitaker had the ability to have a high punch output while also being able to defened/aticipate incoming shots. A truly great matchup, nonetheless
This guys picks Mayweather in every fantasy matchup guys, even if it means making up strengths and denying other opponents advantages, don't worry about him. He literally thinks he's the best fighter of all time.
You're just changing your point of view as the thread goes on. All you're trying to do is continue your thread so you can feel special. You're a ****ing joke dude.
Whitaker is the greater fighter, no doubt, and has a number of advantages H2H... But I still don't think that, stylistically, he would be able to dominate Mayweather. It'd be a great fight for those that love that style of fighting! Whitaker 7-5 for me. Maybe even one "off" judge scoring it a draw or even for Mayweather.
I don't see how it would be boring. Two tactical masters with great defense, speed, and skill going at it, trying to figure eachother out. Anyways, everybody has their own taste in fights:good Care to explain why you pick Mayweather?
To each his own. That's the beauty of the world... It may not be "Vasquez-Marquez" or "Castillo-Corrales" exciting, but it still be a thing of beauty to watch!
He's heard views from other people who have heard views that Whitaker was a runner and he took it as gospel, and now assumes he was a boring fighter. In other words, his opinion is worth about as much as a wet carrot.
