Earnie Shavers - Tua Gerry ****ey - ****ey Samuel Peter - could go either way, lean towards Tua KO but Peter could outbox him and win a decision. Ron Lyle - Lyle decision, but there's a chance Tua catches him Bermane Stiverne - Tua David Haye - Haye HW James Toney - Toney Tony Thompson - Thompson Max Baer - Tua Max Schmeling - Tua Ray Mercer - Depends on which Mercer shows up, but on a good day Ray easily. Sultan Ibragimov - Ibragimov. But Tua has a chance if Ibragimov decides to brawl.
And this right here is what I call Tuardism. It's a very prevalent psychological disorder on boxing forums, where Tua is favored in nearly every h2h matchup there is.
It is pertinent. Sometimes people build up an aura of invincibility around a fighter, and assume that who ever goes head to head with them looses. This line of thinking might make sense (up to a limited point) if you were talking about Joe Louis, Sonny Liston, Mike Tyson. It does not make sense, with a guy who lost every time that he fought a ranked contender, be they great, merely good, big, small, durable, chinny!
He actually would and the few sporadic bombs he scored with, wouldn't do anything but make Baer mad. Baer guarding Galento's left hook and mauling him in the clinch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frHiwiUUnxc
Tua never lost to anyone as sloppy as Baer. Byrd and Lewis, yes. Baer, hell no. Galento wasn't in Tua's league either.
Don't ever suggest to me that I watch a fight this ****py again. I like Baer, but he wouldn't cut it post Patterson/Marciano era without undergoing some radical changes. Galento would never be good in any era past his own, which he still wasn't good in.
If that is ****py and Galento was never good, neither was Tua. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw9zJJLzCa4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiU8hGZjubw There's a reason Galento beat better fighters than Tua and actually made an impression against an all time great...he was simply more effective at landing his money punch.
When was Tua's prime? The Ruiz fight? The loss to Ike? The loss to Byrd? The loss to Lewis? The draw and/or stoppage with Rahman? The "prime" Tua lost to the light hitting Byrd. Which really says all you need tot know about Tua. Just about everyone on the list beats Tua, except Sam Peter.
Tua destroys them all with the best left hook ever :happy Tua also destroys Ali and Holmes :good ok ok ok, fine I am just being devious, I know a few posters on here hate Tua fans and I just couldn't help picturing the look on their faces reading such slander :hat personally I always liked Tua, he was limited but he was a interesting fighter, lets all be honest, when he belted Ruiz into unconsciousness it was shocking,,,, come on, just admit it, I remember I watched that fight live and I thought Ruiz might not wake back up :nut I always wished he would do better but he was just a bit limited for a division that allows guys to be 6.5 and beyond. His pace SLOWED down so much after his first few years making it at the top. The pace of that Ike fight was amazing. When your under 6 feet fighting giants that are skilled its not easy. He may have been limited but he was one of the best pure sluggers ever :thumbsup
I basically agree with all your Tua picks UnleashtheFury , other than when you say Mercer "easily" on a good day, just because I think even on a good day for Mercer as long as its a relatively young Tua as well its still not going to be a easy fight for Mercer even if he wins imo, maybe I am just nitpicking you lol, well maybe I am assuming you are meaning Mercer would knock Tua out early which I don't think would happen, anyways,, good picks!
Not impressed with Tua aside from his hook and ability to take a punch. The proven fighters all beat him. Those from recent years he probably beats.
