Prime Floyd Patterson vs Prime Dwight Qawi Muhammad

Qawi. Always felt Patterson was a cheese champ. I trust Qawi's chin over Floyd's.

Cus Damato matched his fighters very carefully. Well except for him matching Floyd against Sonny, but I guess Floyd pushed for that.

Not a chance. The heavyweight division that Holyfield fought in was a lot different from Patteron's. Buster Douglas was a mountain compared to Ingo. One man was 6'4 and 240 and the other was barely six feet and 200 pounds.

Holyfield's early heavyweight fights against Douglas, Dokes, Cooper and Bowe. He was just over 200 pounds and hurting those big dudes.

 

Yeah but Holyfield was heavier by that time. You think a 187-190 pound Holyfield would do as much damage?

 

Absolutely. When he knocked out Douglas it was 1990 and only two years from his last CW fight against DeLeon. We are only talking 10 pounds difference. I **** 10 pounds after a good buffet.

 

So you don't think Patterson could hurt those guys? Remember, Patterson and Ali were contemporaries and even then, Patterson was regarded as a harder puncher than Ali. And Ali could likely hurt guys like Dokes and Douglas and Cooper and Bowe. So it stands to reason that Patterson would hurt them if he could land good shots.

 

It's hard to say whether Patterson could hurt those guys or not. All I know is most of his KO's were against smaller heavyweights back then. Most of them would be considered Cruiserweights today. Holyfield hurt and knocked out some legit big guys. He looked small and ineffective against larger men like Liston and Ali. Ingo,Ellis, Quarry and Bonavena were all sub 200 pound heavyweights for most of their careers.

I see this one going the same way as Spinks vs Qawi.
Patterson would land something substantial early, and Qawi , realizing Patterson can hurt him and is faster than he probably thought, goes into a shell, fighting cautiously, trying to catch Patterson with a counter until the fight was over with Patterson winning a unanimous decision, or late stoppage.

 

Patterson would win this. His power and speed would give Dwight a real headache.

Realistically the thread doesn't overly work as Qawi's best was at 175 and Pattersons closer to 185 and some might even argue a case for his later heavier self.

Holyfield was in his 12th pro fight vs Qawi and didn't have much of anything on his resume to fully prepare him for an experienced top shelf fighter like Qawi.

It's Patterson for me, absolutely. His handspeed would trouble Dwight and Dwight was never a big banger at any rate.
