This question piqued my interest. Could Floyd beat an unranked heavyweight, albeit a professional one or is physics just physics?

Essentially, this. Tyson doesn't have to land clean. All he has to do is land, wherever he can. It will be the hardest Floyd has ever been hit, every time.

I think Floyd could beat a HW that sucked. Some plodder who punches in slo-mo. I've had tussles with thin wiry dudes with caffeine-type reflexes and it really sucks to see the dude pull back faster than you can throw the punch. So yeah, the speed is real and even though Floyd won't do sheet to the heavy, he will land often and the heavy that sucks won't land much on Floyd. And what he does land will be cuffing shots and grazing hits. But Tyson is the opposite of a heavy that sucks and he had great timing. As good as Floyd was, he couldn't teleport his body out of the way of punches and good luck shoulder rolling vs Tyson

Floyd could have brass knuckles, wear head gear, and be allowed to elbow, kick, and head butt against a weight drained 40 year old Tyson with no training camp.

He'd still get brutally KOd within 2 minutes.

Mayweather forces Mike to make 152, thus killing him. Floyd then beats Mike's corpse by decision 116-112

For a fight like this the rules should be changed somewhat to give Mayweather a genuine chance, because anybody with even one speck of common sense knows Floyd doesn’t stand a cat in hell’s chance of remaining upright for too long in this fight, never mind actually winning it!!

So how about we say…if Floyd survives Round 1, he is declared the winner. Even if he’s knocked down 10 times and beats the count each time, as long as he hears the final bell while still standing, Floyd wins.

I reckon Mayweather would fancy his chances here because Floyd can run, boy can he run! But I’d back fast starting Mike to stalk him, catch him and spark him clean out by 2:59 seconds.

I suspect so, not all unranked HWs, but almost certainly the worst.

The 5ft 9ins 151lbs same day weigh in Charley Burley didn't just beat 6ft 4ins 219lbs Jay Turner, he butchered him for 6 solid rounds, before Turner couldn't come out for the 7th.

Burley was probably naturally a little bigger than Mayweather & Turner was far from world class, but as the HW champion of Texas with a 24-22-4 record, who beat King Levinsky and took Billy Conn, Tiger Jack Fox & Lou Nova the full 10-rounds, he was also far from the worst HW in history. Plus, as I said, Burley didn't just win, he utterly dominated Turner.

Thanks everyone for the replies; both the serious ones, and those mocking my posts. Both were great :) I'm also happy it spurned debates about some legit topics like floyd being able to beat any old heavyweight. The responses did help clear the air on my end!

Would Mayweather Jr. Be allowed to enter the ring with his bodyguards and a semi automatic pistol?
If not this fight would last as long as Tyson wanted it to last.....

You might be the bravest poster on this board, just for asking the question.

    A 10 year debate?

    Really?

Well that’s just sad isn’t it.

That means that your friend is a casual fan, but one who has learnt nothing new within that period.

Therefore, his opinions on anything boxing related carry no weight whatsoever.

Regarding this fight, there’s only 2 things to consider:

    1. Mike wouldn’t even have had to have caught him flush at first. But he WOULD have caught him with power shots. Floyd couldn’t have evaded all of them. And whatever Mike had caught him with first, be it blocked arm punches or a partially blocked body punch etc, it would have been the beginning of the end.

    2. Floyd would have had zero offense in the fight. I mean literally zero. He wouldn’t even have thrown a punch at Mike.

So of course this is a FANTASY fight.

But in reality, it’s only a question of which would have happened first:

Mike breaking him down, or the referee waving it off because Floyd would literally have just ran around the ring in a defensive shell.

The smart money would have been on Mike having broken him down.

Don’t even entertain these types of debates.

Either introduce your friend to some fights, or if he’s not interested, then tell him that his opinion on the matter is beyond worthless as he has no understanding of the sport.
