I can appreciate your thinking ,but I, and everybody else knows ,that their fight was a scheduled 10 rounder,the programme and several newspapers of the day have been produced multiple times on here, by such as Matt Donnellon.I think the subject has been done to death, and I did not revive it.

Likewise , Clay Moyle has produced first hand newspaper accounts of the Johnson/ Langford fight, in the recent Langford / Jeanette thread, the report states Langford took an awful beating,and was knocked down twice.I mention it because, what's the betting Mendoza will regurgitate the old pack of lies about the fight later?
He was conspicuously silent after C Moyle posted the news account, but after a brief interim he will tell the lies again.
As far as I am concerned both subjects are closed, but I will correct any lies about them that surface later, now, apologies for veering off the thread, I have posted on it a few times [without mentionig either Battling Jim,or Langford].
My pick was Johnson ,and I did not mean to imply Sullivan was unskilled, though I believe his contemparies largely were.

 

Even if Jack Johnson vs. Jim Battling was 10 rounds, the papers...any one of them that gave a detailed report of the fight suggest Jim was the winner.

 

I appreciate a healthy argument and even some good **** talking as much as the next guy but sometimes it's just better to agree to disagree (even when you know you are right.)

Regardless of how many rounds it was scheduled for (I have read both but take Moyle's word as true), the accounts of the fight are that Lil' Arthur was beaten pillar to post and that the crowd booed the draw decision. That's the damning reality for me.

I agree, also, Johnson takes Sullivan but that Sullivan is one of his most dangerous opponents, white or black.

 

I can wait, April isn't too far away.
Sullivan would be very dangerous ,but I think he matches up better with the likes of Jeffries , rather than Johnson.

 

I think a prime Jeffries, gives just about any Champ a run for their money , that does not mean I would pick him over a lot of them ,but he would be no cake walk for anyone.

 

Anyone who reads the papers and does some research knows Johnson was lucky as a warden in a women's prison with a fist full of pardons to escape the Battling Jim fight with a draw.

McVey cherry picks his stuff, and regurgitates the passages in books that he agrees with. In this case he lacks critical objective thinking.
