under queensbury rules sullivan takes it with in 4 rounds by ko under lrr it depends on if johnson feels like cheating and just falling down to stretch the rounds could be any where from 6-50 rounds in that case.

either way sullivans winning gloved or no gloves with the way sullivan punched and the thickness of the gloves at the time it didnt matter.

 

Whether or not we have film of Sullivan, you can tell he had power because many sportswriters would write that Sullivan would lift people off the ground with uppercuts.

 

I consider Johnson to be one of the greatest HWs ever and though I strictly don't know enough about Sullivan I'd bet on Jack every time.

 

Sullivan was also one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

His style and era are sufficiently different from Johnson's that comparisons are verry difficult. Sufice it to say however that he was a lot closer to Johnsons level as a talent than he was to Marvin Hart or even Jim Corbett.

 

Amazingly, they do actualy have one common oponent in Jim McCormick.

More remarkably, a 47 year old Sullivan disposed of him more quickly than Jack Johnson!

Not wishing to tear down old John L but I don't think you can read a lot into how many rounds opponents went with Johnson, he rarely went for the kill.

Comparing fighters results is misleading but, as you say interesting.
Dominick MacCaffery went the 7rd limit with Sullivan losing on points, this victory sealed Sully's claim as the first Champ under Queensbury rules. MacCaffery was taken out in 4 rds by Corbett,who could not punch anything like as hard as John L.

 

Sullivan and Johnson share one thing in common.

They both retained their title with a broken arm, against Patsy Cardiff and Bat Jim Johnson respectivley!

Not withing to re open the debate on the Jack Johnson Battling Jim fight, but it had to be said.
