Your grasp on reality completely disintegrates whenever Floyd is the thread-subject. What the **** is Carlos Baldomir going to do when Ray Leonard backs him up and unloads with vicious, blinding combinations?? Is he going to continually smother and nullify SRL for 12/15 rounds? Is he going to lie on the ropes like James Toney, slipping and rolling his way through the entire fight? Is he going to fire back, and be able to meet Leonard head on in a firefight and survive? Is he going to be able to jab and move, and keep Leonard at bay? What you are suggesting is utterly, utterly ridiculous... even for you. Leonard may or may not be able to knock Baldomir out cleanly, but either way, of course the fight is never going to go more than a couple of rounds, because the gap in quality is so insanely massive that it can only end with Baldomir eating shots and being able to do nothing about it. Ever seen Joe Calzaghe vs Peter Manfredo Jr? Calzaghe didn't have the punching power to stop him, but the gulf in class was so enormous that the fight degenerated into a one-way rout, a shooting gallery, and the referee knew the only thing that could happen if he didn't stop it was that Manfredo would continue to eat leather for every second of every round, so he waved it off. Leonard vs Baldomir would either be an early KO, or it would be the same as Calzaghe-Manfredo, because the gulf in class and ability is gigantic, there's no conceivable way that fight could progress beyond a couple of rounds unless the referee was a sadistic ******* who had no interest in Baldomir's safety. Leonard vs a 38 year old rusty Mosley... I think that fight would go a way that not many people suspect. Basically, Mosley was very easy to hit vs Floyd, and was by far the slower man vs Floyd. If you consider that, along with the fact that Leonard has both (a) faster hands than Floyd, (b) heavier hands than Floyd, (c) is more aggressive than Floyd, and (d) throws better combinations than Floyd, I genuinely think there is an extremely good chance of a KO, and if not that then a TKO victory is a foregone conclusion, whether it be referee or corner stoppage. Mosley was dropped, badly hurt, and almost stopped by Vernon Forrest, and at times badly hurt by Floyd, and SRL's firepower at welter makes those two look like Paulie Malignaggi. Shane only knows how to fight one way, and once SRL was burning him for speed and accuracy at his own game, Shane would become even more demoralized, hopeless and physically hurt than he was in the latter stages of the 1st Winky fight or the fight with Floyd. I cannot envisage any way Shane avoids being stopped either, and without much resistance to be honest. SRL is just too fast, too vicious, and too relentless for the creaking 2010 version to cope with for more than a few rounds.
Never doubted it, it was rhetorical, lol. If the ref is humane, he wouldn't give Baldomir more than 5 rounds with Leonard, and a 38 year old Mosley would be disposed of too, probably by the midway point.
I suggested earlier in the thread that Leonard would **** up Baldomir bad, but this definitely captures the scenario. Maybe not a KO (which I wouldn't rule out), but certainly a human stoppage at best. Baldomir was made to be hit with uppercuts. Leonard could throw viscious uppercuts and would surely stop Baldomir. Sure, Leonard let a Larry Bonds linger for awhile. But Baldomir is a different animal. Baldomir would force the issue and make Leonard leery of headbutts, and elbows, and other roughhouse tactics and Leonard would do what was necessary to get him out of there.
How did the other 10, journeymen included, go the distance with Ray 'Tyson' Leonard at Welterweight? Some devine intervention must have occured because Tyson, I mean Leonard knocks everyone in history out within 3 rounds
Typically feeble response once you have realized you're spouting fanboy drivel. When we talk about hypothetical h2hs, we talk about the best version of each man. You think the best version of Ray Leonard couldn't completely overwhelm and blitz the best version of Carlos ****ing Baldomir?? Stop.
Leonard would do just about everything better than Mayweather. Ray would be the aggressor throughout, and would stop PBF by the the thirteeenth. Mayweather would have his moments, for sure but not enough of them.
Popkins know when you're been owned, it happens anytime someone replies to you, me or anyone else, you're a ****wit who pretends to have seen fights you haven't we're established that with the Hops-Mercado fight :yep Now tell me how 10 men went the distance with Leonard at 147, tell me how journeymen went the distance with Leonard. Please enlighten me with your ****witery, its noticable that you never answer the questions when you're been owned kid
Maybe, but i think he's actually became a better boxer technically since he left the likes of 130, i just think he chose to fight that way on the night, as much as people like to talk about the level of competition, performance wise the Marquez fight was a clinic. The only thing he lacked against Marquez and Mosley was finishing skills imo. PS- he did drop Marquez with a lead hook/uppercut remember?
Food for thought on the Leonard - Baldomir discussion. Benitez, Kalule or Hearns had never been stopped until they met Leonard. Not to even open the Leonard - Duran II can of worms.
You know what every boxer becomes technically better in age and most significantly physically deteriate with age. This is why I always think its a little unfair to say when an old and young great fight each other to assume the younger fighter has the edge, mentally he's at disadvantage Physically from 2005 onwards FMJ has dropped off, however I'm not sure if he's jabbing more because he's dropped off or because his father is in the camp advising him to jab. I'm not sure if losing only 1 round against Mosley/JMM is an improvement over losing 6-8rounds against DLH/Hatton or not, styles make fights. Personally I think he could have stopped JMM if he stepped it up
Yawn. James Tillis, Mitch Green, Bonecrusher Smith and Razor Ruddock all went the distance with Mike Tyson, so I suppose that automatically means that late 80s/early 90s Tyson would not be able to stop 2010's unstopped Nikolay Valuev. Mike Colbert, Ernie Singletary and Murray Sutherland all went the distance with Thomas Hearns, so I suppose that automatically means that ww/lmw Hearns would not be able to stop 2010's unstopped Andre Berto. Fermin Chirino, Lou del Valle, Reggie Johnson, David Telesco and Julio Cesar Gonzalez all went the distance with Roy Jones, so I suppose that automatically means that lhw Jones would not be able to stop 2010's unstopped Tavoris Cloud. Your reasoning is just so shite I don't know how you've lasted this long without the moderators banning you for crimes against boxing discussion. So Leonard didn't stop everyone he faced at welter, but who does knock out every single opponent they face at a weight they stayed at for a prolonged time? The very best version of Ray Leonard is just so many light years ahead of a D-class plodder like Carlos Baldomir, its such an insane mismatch that there just cannot be any way that neither the ref nor the corner nor Baldo himself would be able to keep that match-up going. How the **** do you think Baldomir would make it to the final bell?! What would he do exactly, how would the fight go?!! I'm dying to hear this, this is going to be good... atsch
I'l go one further, i think he could have stopped Mosley the way that fight was going, if he could combo/finish better at this weight, but no excuses anyway. I just reckon he's jabbing more because he's a versatile fighter and he can fight like that, maybe it does have something to do with his deteriorating speed, but it's not like he's slow now or anything. Like i say though, i don't think his legs have dropped off.
Bringing up opponents who "went the distance" against a fighter at a certain weight are always pretty lamentable attempts at justification. It's like the old "If X could trouble Y then imagine what Z would do!" You might as well start claiming Mayweather would beat Napoles because Napoles lost to Urbina.
