Prime Lewis v Prime Liston

I'm getting at the fact that Lewis is bigger and effectively rangier.

 

then why would he need his legs for that. Liston is still the harder puncher and has the better jab and he also is exceptionally strong himself
Lewis is obviously bigger but Liston would also do quite well at long range and Liston would outjab him and outfight him the way mercer did

I think he's still going to be able to get in jab position. Lewis wasn't Ali. He didn't have the mobility or the speed that bothers Liston the most. Lewis is going to start slugging, and its not going to end well for him because Liston would WANT a brawl.

It's hardly irrelevant. Power and having the better jab is definitely going to effect the fight unless you just aren't going to address those.

not really. Mercer didn't have the "legs" and he still outjabbed lewis and muscled him around. Liston could do everything mercer could, and better, except perhaps Mercer's chin is less dentable.

 

Tyson had to pay Lewis because he had to fight Holyfield a second time to avenge the loss. All that proves is that Lewis only wanted to fight the post-prison, out-of-shape Tyson. Look at Lennox's resume and notice he fought in England until his loss to Oliver McCall in 1994.

In 1991, Tyson had to fight Razor Ruddock, 25-2, when he should have fought Lennox Lewis, 15-0. But Lewis was fighting bums in England, waiting for Tyson to lose his prime. Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows that swarmers like Dempsey, Marciano, and Frazier only kept their prime for about 6 years. That style takes a lot out of you quickly, and Tyson belonged to that school. Lennox had a shrewd trainer and manager, who kept him away from peak Tyson. Just like Cus D'Amato kept Floyd Patterson away from the HW division until the day Marciano retired.

 

i don't think lewis is the more powerful of them. personally i think next to foreman, shavers and baer. liston is up there as one of the most powerful hitters. his jab alone was like being hit by a incoming train

i don't think Lewis would beat Liston. Liston is too good an athlete to get man handled and worn out in his prime. and he can fight outside and the inside. the outside he would jab with Lewis and his was stronger.
