By the by, those of you lucky enough to have met the man during his semi lucid days can attest to the fact that Ali was a big dude. Even were he a no name, not a guy you would mess with for anything but lifesaving reasons. He was built differently than mortals.
I can't not predict Marciano coming on late and I don't see Ali stopping him within the first half of the fight. The problem Ali is going to be maintaining a strenuous work rate. He's very clever though, so expect him to tie Rocky up when he needs to catch a breather. If Marciano can time Ali on the inside, catch him in the break a couple of times it could get interesting. I give the benefit of the doubt to Ali and concede he'd likely be able to hold on to a points win, but I wouldn't be surprised if could pull it out the bag. Had this been Ali fro, his first title reign Marcianos chances would be much slimmer
Marciano didnt have fraziers defense. How does he get past alis jab and right without getting sliced open and stopped on cuts? He never faced a guy with alis style FOTC Ali was about 10 times better than any other Marciano opponent who was under 30, Marciano had a HUGE youth and "hunger" advantage over all of his top wins. Not ali who was still 6+ years of tough fights away from having the type of wear and tear that the top Marcianos victims had. However ali has to watch marcianos right over his jab, which would make him even more vulnerable to the hook than he already is. Marcianos 2 fisted threat is a serious advantage over fotc frazier
Norton,Foster,Williams were all fast, all big hitters all 6'3"and over 210lbs. I use the same standards for everything.I hope I'm not becoming," your mission in life".
I would expect Ali to win on points. Marciano is gonna have to cut the ring and get under Ali's jab. It's a tall order for anyone. One thing I don't question is Marciano power. He could hit. With both hands. He carried that power late into fights which is not that common. With that said Ali had One of the great Chins and ability to recover in history. Also unlike Larry Holmes Ali really didn't get that jab timed and beaten with the right. You didn' see Ali going down very often. There would be some rough moments because Ali would have to rest some rounds and that would be alot of fun.
Those are postmodern heavyweights you are describing. Learn the correct terminology. Protean to this discussion, Ali beat modern heavies in Liston and Foreman and Lyle and Frazier and Terrell and Williams and Foster and Wepner and Bugner...
I am no fan of Ali by any stretch of the imagination so I have no horse in this. I have Ali winning this on points or by TKO.
