Your post made me think of how a Margarito/Spence fight would go.

That was one of the better fights of that era not to happen.

Cotto is being a bit over rated here, hate to say it because I love the guy… or Spence is being under rated..

I view him and Spence as being on a VERY similar level honestly. Very good fighters, but not quite elite. I feel like if you swapped both their careers, they would win and lose the same fights.

Pre accident Spence was really really good. Post accident he’s not elite

I love Miggy. But I’d edge prime Spence.

I think Spence is a pretty bad match-up for Cotto in all honesty. He’s a big welter, a heavy handed puncher, and he’s got a very good gas tank. The persistent pressure, jab, and high guard of Clottey gave Cotto fits in a fight he was lucky to get the nod in, so there is a blueprint there for Spence to follow with the added trouble of Spence being a southpaw and of him having a better engine and bigger punch than Clottey. Love Cotto but I think Spence would nick a competitive decision over him.

Errol legit gives Cotto a lot of problems this fight is nowhere as near cut and dried as people believe, 50/50 fight lean towards Cotto.

Spence would have to walk through fire to get to Cotto just like Margarito did. If Cotto realized he wouldn't be able to stop Spence (like with Mosley), then he would move backwards and box beautifully (like with Mosley). But unlike Margo, Spence wouldn't have the same chin and durability to maintain similar pressure. So likely Cotto would have won by decision, even possible stoppage by a counter left hook.

The fact that Spence hasn’t fought…

    quite bothersome.
