Loma is a very different fighter to JMM, being a southpaw means he doesn't have the counter right hand which was a big weapon for JMM against Pac. I think Loma is likely better than anyone P4P than Pac ever beat, but I couldn't pick Loma over Pac. I mean Pac beat full blown, big welters and did so in dominant fashion. If Loma can match that feat and go onto beat guys like Spence, Thurman, Porter etc then yeah you could say Loma has a shot but until then I just couldn't imagine it.
I think we also need to realize just how different Loma’s rise to greatness is from Pac and JMM. Loma turned pro at much later age after having one of the greatest amateur careers of all time. His style was already developed for the most part and is now fixed and so is his weight. Manny otoh, turned pro as an unheard of malnourished teenager whose style would become refined under trench warfare in the pro ranks. Manny also had the burden and the privilege of being with three other ATGs who were in his weight class and close to prime and who were willing to engage him; I don’t think Loma has that so we may never know just how he’d hold up.
So we're not picking the best version we've seen of Lomachenko against this almost mythical version of Pac? Seems fair.
The point I was trying to make was that fighters didn't have to be able to match Pac athletically to beat him.
Loma didn’t wasn’t to fight a past it Pac at 140, 7 years out his prime. I think Pac straight after the Hatton fight could have easily dropped back to 135 and walk through Loma. He voluntarily weighed in 137/138 for the 140 fight so it seems 135 was easy enough for him to make as he maintained. Loma also fights nothing like JMM, Loma uses his foot speed to get around fighters so it’s a question if he can out angle Pac who himself has great foot speed and creates angles. I also don’t see how he can nullify pac’s combinations? He doesn’t have JMM’s stoppage power to intimidate Pac, and he doesn’t have floyds reach to keep him at bay and then grab him when he gets close. In fact Loma like to use the high guard which is the worst defence you can use against combinations because then it’s just like hitting a punching bag. Loma would have to outbox him from the outside, and hope he don’t get hit clean. Pac at that time hit hard enough to drop cotto and Mosley, stun Margarito, put Hatton on a stretcher and was pretty much overwhelming JMM with speed and power in the 4th fight until that 2 punch counter KO came along, which Loma doesn’t have.
I see but then i still don't see loma koing pac or even make him say no mas. Pac at his his prime was just too hungry and stubborn that you have to stop him dead on his tracks to beat him.
The Pac who beat Cotto was a force of nature. Speed, agility, punching power, balance all out of this world. Far too much for any fighter. That Pac performance is what forced Mr. Money "Fight in the pocket/run" Mayweather to delay for many years...
It's takes a real champion, multiple weight division champions and atg's to beat Pacquiao. I think Loma has those qualities in him. I really do! It wont be domination by either one. It's back and forth. Loma chin is kind of suspect. So I could see Pacquiao hurt him bad. I can see Loma unpredictability troubling Pacquiao.
Unfair to Marquez, who was forced to a fight a prime Salido instead of a cherry picked, past-it version.
Go back in thread and read the quote I was responding to. Someone assumed Loma would beat Pac because he struggled with Marquez which is a poor line of reasoning. Edit: Oh wait, that was you.
Let's not forget that the Pac who lost to Morales was fighting a naturally larger ATG. That usually results in a loss for the smaller man. That said, Loma is less proven than Morales and does not have the power or toughness of Morales either. I dont see how that fight would indicate a Loma win. If anything what Pac showcased against Morales would only strengthen his case for beating Loma.
He never did best Lower weight Pac. He was only able to beat war torn 147 pound Pac. Marquez lost to prime Pac. Deal with it.
Except I didn't did I. I said he would have a chance of beating him as technical fighters who weren't able to match him physically were able to outmanouver him. I also said he might end up getting brutally stopped. Now grow up you soft ****.
