Yet another example of favoring fighters from previous generations. I love "Sweet Pea." I watched him through his prime when I was a kid. He's one of my favorite fighters of all time. However, I don't think he would beat Mayweather or Pacquiao... at least not one-sided. To be sure, they'd be 2 of the best fights we'll ever see, but I think it'd be almost dead even in both cases. Mayweather would have the better chance of winning though because he happens to have excellent defense. Pac-man's defense is his offense, but against Pernell... who is faster than both, it'd be tough for Manny to slug it out. Manny doesn't fight black fighters anyway, so no sense in debating this.
i disagree, most people Pacman fought would beat him on paper but lose in the ring, don't see why this would be any different, you can't measure heart on paper and thats what wins him his fights, the heart he shows in the gym to keep improving the way he does in order to rise to the challenge, and the heart he shows in the ring to win even when he's outclassed, overmatched, or the odds are against him.. he's built his whole career off of defying logic, so to say he has no choice is ignorant IMO, Pac's shown me he can deal with anyone put in front of him, so untill he shows me otherwise, he has a good chance of winning this fantasy fight and LOL @ Manny doesn't fight black fighters but uhh....as for JMM vs. Pernell, i'll take Pernell UD, Marquez does his best work against brawlers, Pernell might be too slick for Marquez to land his jab, so Pernell could control the pace of the fight, but i could see Marquez landing some eye catching counters since Marquez is godly at timing a fighter, but it takes him atleast 4 rounds to really get into the fight, so this would be his downfall, Pernell would outpoint him the Floyd fights a 50/50 one in my book, dont see why any1 could think otherwise, sure the mans a coward compared to all the other all time greats (if you wanna consider him 1), and he wouldn't of so much mentioned his name if they were in the same era, but skill for skill, attribute for attribute, i have no reason to believe that Floyd ain't got the skills and talent to match up to Pernells, this is a pick em' for me
