I see your point but I don't know if Galento was better than Ruddock

Tbh i agree. I might get some hate here but I've always that Joe Louis is overrated in H2H matchups. Taking a look at him on film and he seems somewhat slow and methodical and pretty stiff. Not slow as in handspeed because Joe Louis had fast hands but he wasn't fluid at all. And taking a look at his stance kinda shows world class heavyweight boxers has evolved somewhat since then.

Heavyweights in general were also 185-210 back in those days. Joe Louis was powerful but he was usually fighting tiny guys and the big guys he did fight were stiff with 0 head movement. No fluidity at all. Do i favor Ruddock ? Not exactly but put Joe Louis in with somebody like Vitali Klitschko or Geogre Foreman and he gets destroyed

You were almost there when you said stiff and no head movement then you had to go and say Vitali and George :duh

Vitali was stiff but he was far more skilled that the baer brothers and Primo Canera and so was Foreman

Ruddock was wild puncher that kind of abandoned his boxing ability and just threw the smash punch all night. He was wasn't that accurate and left himself open a lot. Louis went down a lot but he was hard to put away ... You would need a supreme finisher to knockout Joe Louis. But the smash punch was one of the most powerful punches in history ... This is a close one but Ruddock would win ... Joe Louis would get hit and if he takes enough of Ruddocks signature punch I don't see him surviving ...

I also think Louis is overrated h2h. He just had really good attributes that were perfect for the time. It was good handspeed, accuracy, punch selection, and power against guys that were punching bags, of course Louis is gonna look amazing. Yes I said Louis’ opponents were punching bags, literally none of them would even be a contender today and the division isn’t that stacked

He had amazing punch selection, good speed and decent head movement for his time but yeah boxing has changed. You could actually make an argument that Dwight Muhammad Qawi could have been a world champion in Joe Louis's era. He was more skilled than most people in that era and was amazing at slipping jabs and hooks and throwing counters on the front foot and weighed about 180-190 ish if im not mistaken even though he was very short. But compare dwight Muhammad Qawi to your average heavyweight today and he looks like a plushtoy.

Joe Louis would have played counter puncher to Ruddock, and been ready for that counter the minute Ruddock makes a mistake. He will hit Ruddock a few times and then razor loses balance and starts throwing wide, Morrison belted him with a tighter left hook in just the same manner.

Ruddock has a punchers chance, and because of his chin he would go on quite awhile. As Ruddock gets sloppy and runs low on gas, Joe makes him pay.

Joe was never known as a fast starter, so , Ruddock has a 40% chance of catching and stopping Joe in the first fight, his power, chin and size will give him a real chance the early rounds.

But any rematch Joe would be a heavy favorite.

Louis is not the greatest H2H with many ATG's , but Razor is too sloppy, gases out easily , does not go for the kill, and is clumsy at times. That is right where Joe will pick you apart.

Ruddock's best chance is to blitz Joe. But, that is not his style.

Joe...60/40 odds first fight..., 80/20 in any rematch

Joe was 6' 2". And Razor was 6'3".... One inch difference, so it not like Ruddock has that many "modern" advantages

Like most fantasy matchups, the earlier athletes do not enjoy a lot of advantages their later counterparts get.

Lets give Louis the advantages Ruddock has from being born in a later era (better childhood nutrition, training, possibly PEDs, advancements in sports medicine, weights, fight tape etc) and see how this fight goes for Ruddock. Im guessing very poorly.

Also while im thinking this through, i think if you take Ruddock and have him be born the same year as Louis he might actually do better. I think theres a case to be made that though Ruddock may not be as tall or as big as he turned out in the 90s, him fighting a 1930s schedule is to his benefit. 2 of Ruddocks main issues in what should of been some of his prime years were inactivty and his falling in love with "the smash" punch. In the 1930s hes not going to have these long layoffs between fights, keeping his skills sharp as he fights multiple times a month. Maybe he only clocks in at 6'1ish 200 lbs, but he could be a better fighter.
