Exactly. Johnson and Tarver just landed lucky punches and after seeing Jones deal with prime tito trinidad you have to agree that Jones was probably in the form of his career. Calzaghe peaked around the Carlos Christie fight....So he was probably more past his prime then Jones.
>Shieka >Lacy Does not compute. For one, Jones doesn't have near enough the power he did when he was in his prime, his speed might be there but his power isn't. That and he can get caught a little easier, but that wouldn't give so much away.
I've often wondered about this but never had the chance to discuss it or hear other people's opinions on the matter. Many thanks to the original poster.
I reckon it would be close, but I reckon RJJ would win it on a split decision. But for all you RJJ nuthuggers out there, it would not be a comfortable easy fight for your boy. Joe Calzaghe would definitely be still standing after 12 rounds and with his hand speed and work rate would cause a prime RJJ all sorts of problems. The RJJ Vs Calzaghe fight (even though BOTH fighters were past their prime) really shows how devestating the Calzaghe 'slaps' can be. That was a beat down of epic proportions considering who was getting beatdown. Since that fight we have seen RJJ come back with two impressive wins (considering his age) which shows he was not totally shot against Calzaghe.
Who would win in a reality tv dancing contest - Jones or Calzaghe? I'd say prime for prime Jones would win it pretty handily, but of course Joe would "bust some moves" using a pretty poor, sloppy technique, but would win the popularity vote by the many viewers who would vote for him for his workrate and... well just his workrate really. However Joe probably suffers with a bad ankle so wouldn't be able to dance his best, and none of the other top level dancers in the world wouldn't want to compete with him anyway as he's too dangerous. He might get one or two faded old timers later on, and then cement his legendary status by waltzing with them and getting the greater number of votes from the judges.
Thats Brilliant. He'll begin his dancing career at the local rehabilitation centre dancing with the patients there then he will get a suprise oppertunity to dance at a major show against a famous old dancer whose just about to retire. The next few years will be spent dancing in small local pavilions. Then he will have to dance against a young up and coming american dancer who some thought was the next Micheal Jackson but turned out to be more steven hawking. The american dancer will get badly exposed (not ruined), then Calzaghe will dance against the best guy in europe. Impressively scraping through. Finally he will dance againt two old US dancers. Both well past there best. Some people will call him an all time great dancer.... others been more realistic will call him an ok dancer who never danced witht the best when they could still dance. :deal
It is a fascinating topic. It's great to read so many impartial opinions on the topic. It's the thing I love most about ESB - how fair-minded and reasonable everyone is.
