What about Jones's abysmal chin? Prime Calzaghe had good hands, with handspeed. That's bad news for Jones.

Abysmal chin? Jones' chin certainly wasn't one of his better assets, and it was probably only serviceable, but it wasn't abysmal. He didn't suffer a knockout until he'd clearly started declining. Suffered that knockdown against Del Valle, but let's not pretend it was a crisis moment.

Regardless of that, he was just so hard to catch on that chin in his prime in any case. Toney framed his punches as well as anyone, and contrary to popular belief he and Jones did fight at close quarters a few times in that bout, but he couldn't find the spot. I think Jones was just too elusive and hard to pin down. Calzaghe at his best had a better punch than some give him credit for, but I'm a long way from thinking that all he'd have to do is land one big shot to turn the fight in his favour.

As I said, I think Jones was just on a different level to Calzaghe. That's not a slight against the Welshman, more just a reminder of how dominant and freakishly good Jones was back in the day.

yes it seems its landslide win for roy jones, so no wonder calzaghe waited till roy and Bernie were fortysomething in order to face them, or he would have been destroyed by them.

Roy said when he was at his best, Calzaghe wouldn't have been able to keep him off of him, and I believe that.

What is it that people cant work out?
Forget that Jones lost to Calzaghe and consider -

Jones lost to Johnson who lost to Sheika who lost to Calzaghe
Jones lost to Hopkins who lost to Calzaghe
Jones lost to Griffin who lost to Johnson who lost to Sheika who lost to Calzaghe
Jones lost to Maccarinelli who lost to Braehmer who lost to Veit who lost to Calzaghe
Jones lost to Tarver who lost to Hopkins who lost to Calzaghe
Jones lost to Green who lost to Mundine who lost to kessler who lost to Calzaghe
Jones lost to Lebedev who lost to G Jones who lost to Noel who lost to Benn who lost to Eubank who lost to Calzaghe

    Lesson over

Jones wasn't past it in the Griffin loss but it wasn't a "true" loss IMO... The first round slaughter in the rematch should clear all doubt.

Also in the list Roy beat some of the fighters further down the form line.. So it is hardly a way to explain how Prime Jones vs. Prime Calzaghre would have went.

Lou Del Valle dropped a Prime Jones. Griffin was on his way to dropping him before Roy got out of the fight with a foul. We all saw what happened when people landed on that Glass Jaw he got knocked down, knocked out, or looked for a way out of the fight.

Jones biggest problem other than his Fragile Glass Jaw was he had no Plan B in a fight and knew only how to fight one way. Would have been very interesting to have seen Jones fight some of those guys that could have gotten him out of his comfort zone but he was too reluctant and fought the Grant's, Hall, Frazier's and Kelly's instead.
