I and many others picked Weidman to beat Silva the first time. There's nothing concrete to show that he wasn't in his prime at that point. Silva had a very carefully manufactured run and benifited greatly fighting for years in a talent starved division.

Weidman at his best was just a stylistic nightmare for all of the reasons Sonnen was and more. Great wrestler like Sonnen but also with a solid BJJ game, solid chin, competent striking skills. I think Silva may have slipped a little but not substantially enough to warrant an argument that few years prior Weidman wouldn't have been competitive. I think Prime Silva vs. Weidman would have gone similar to Sonnen/Silva I only Weidman doesn't choke in the eleventh hour like Sonnen did and manages to win a dominant UD.
