I never really thought much of Lewis's jab. A pawing punch if ever there was one, often extended improperly. It did more to help him control the range and gauge distance for the right hand than anything else.
Well, sometimes it was a great great punch, but most of the time he just pawed with it. I like wlad's jab a lot better. Hell, Mercer has a better jab then him :good
Great fight. I am going to echo what a lot of guys have said on here and say that Bruno is a live dog. He is big and hard hitting- two things that a lot of Wlad's best wins have not been. And considering that the man was in there with prime Tyson and Lewis, you know he would be ready and unintimidated, whereas Wlad would have to adapt to being in there with a man of the second greateast era of heavyweight history.
I think Wlads jab has gotten very good. Its much faster than Lewis and just as hard, plus he can throw punches better off of it than Lewis. Wlad has very good boxing skills, but like I said in another post, he doesnt have those other intangibles to make him as good as Lewis was.
I pick Wlad by late stoppage, but the very fact that so many give Bruno a 50/50 chance refects tellingly on Wlad's pretensions to greatness imo. ps I don't think you should call anyone a hater, after your litany of derogatory remarks about Jack Johnson atsch
I agree that Lewis did not allways get full momentum behind his jab,and sacriligeously I think Wlad's is overated too, he has his left out at 75% extension ,then adds the last 25%, it is effective because he is so big ,and out reaches his opponent , not because it is actually that special ,I would expect a man with comparable height and reach, to hold his own with him jabbing ,even a prime Valuev probably
Bruno was a mediocre contender. Not a bad fighter, but nothing to write home about. His best weapon was his jab but then again he wouldn't be able to beat Wlad with just that and that's all Bruno brings to the table. Footwork? Punching power? Control of distance? Wlad has many advantages, I just don't see what magical skill or ability wins it for Bruno against this version of Wlad. Whenever Bruno faced world class opposition he failed to perform, Wlad would be no different. If Bruno boxed in today's era he would be among the Briggses and Liakoviches of the recent years. Another B class fighter. Could win a paper belt and then woudln't be able to hold on to it for very long. Wlad would dispose of Bruno with ease.
Lol is this serious? I see the usual suspects are picking Bruno to win, most of them proven Klitschko haters :yep. Wlad rips Bruno a new one.
Thats your opinion , which you are entitled to. Great heavyweight jabbers? Liston Louis Holmes Tunney Wlad is not this class, imo.
Wlad stops Frank in 5 or 6, much the same way he stopped Rahman, by jabbing Bruno into "bolivian" and then appltying the coup de grace in the 5th or 6th, with the ref stopping it.
Random observation about Wlad i rarely ever see mentioned.... By and large he's an incompetent counterpuncher.I know many standup offense/jab focused stylists prefer to lead and dicate more than counter anyway, but christ he's notably mediocre here.A big part of the reason he sucks when he can't dictate pace. Not beign able to consistently punch WITH the other fighter, and being mentally weak when someone tags you and pressures, are a bad combo for a supposedly great heavy. Well unless you are freakishly huge and almost everyone else isn't much good at all.
Are we all of sudden comparing them to all time great heavyweight jabbers or having a great jab? Becauase I wasnt. What these two guys made up with their jab was speed and power, and both Lewis and Wlad have and had two of the most powerful jabs in heavyweight history.
