No he definitely panicked when his opponents didnt fall down and came on strong, definitely against Brewster. He was just never properly prepared to handle it because he had no idea how to clinch and tie up properly like he does now.
1993-10-01 : Lennox Lewis 229lbs beat Frank Bruno 238lbs by TKO in round 7 of 12 Location: Cardiff Arms Park, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom Referee: Mickey Vann Judge: Tony Castellano 57-57 Judge: Jerry Roth 57-57 Judge: Adrian Morgan 55-59 World Boxing Council Heavyweight Title (2nd. defending of Lewis) Weights: Bruno 238 lbs, Lewis 229 lbs Time: 1:12 bruno was ahead on one card and the other two cards were even
You could argue Brewster but I think the whole crcumstances have more to do with that than anything else.
Bruno gave Lewis hell, but when Lewis turned it into more of a fight, he started winning. That was a part of Brunos game he didnt have he just couldnt fight, he was too big and stiff. Had that fight stayed a boxing match Lewis would have probably lost. Lewis was still green at that time in the art of fighting, but he had the guts and knowledge of what it took to win when certain things werent working, and thats what separated him from guys like Bruno. He was a complete fighter, became a better one, but was never truly a great "complete fighter" in my opinion. He was always a better boxer than he was a brawler or infighter.
bottom line: Wlad´s the better "boxer" but Lewis can bring on the heat when he has to. Wlad can´t - as far as we know up to now. Perhaps we see this in the Haye fight.
Yes, and thats the question I have of both brothers. Emanuel Steward in so many words has said Wlad just will never have that dimension to his game, so he works more on tieing up and keeping the fight at range. He has become very good at tieing up and using his huge physical size, so I think its going to make it very difficult for Haye to drag him into a street fight but its his only chance.
Wlad himself says that he knows exactly what to do in these moments, he sees the openings and all but he also sees the countering opportunities of the opponent and the dangers and while he thinks about that, it´s too late to act. He is thinking too much.
Not really. I wouldn't imagine him outboxing the Lewis that fought Tommy Morrison..... or being able to live with him in the Ruddock and Golota fights. If they fought ten times I'd have Lewis winning at least nine of them.
I think if they werent allowed to do anything but box from the outside that Wlad would win, but overall I think Lewis is a better fighter.
He wouldn't win from the outside either. Lewis wouldn't need to get close to knock WALDO out - it'd be Razor Ruddock/Michael Grant all over again :happy
I dont think it would be that easy. Grant was utter garbage, but yes Ruddock was caught by a beautiful overhand right from the outside. Wlad can box with the best of them, but cant fight with the worst of them.
Unintimidated? Did ya see how fast and often he was blessing himself going into the 2nd tyson fight? It was a blur of speed
No question lewis is the better fighter, no question. Anyone who thinks wlad, who IMO isnt as good as his brother, would beat lewis is deluded or just outright biased. A finished lewis beat the better brother and a prime lewis KOs wlad in 1 or 2 a-la grant or golota
