Floyd needs to do more than pop a jab to keep chavez off of him. Chavez by the way IN HIS HAY DAY would slip jabs like nothing followed by a counter lead right. If and when Floyd had to fight Chavez would get the better plain and simple because on the ropes that defense would get opened the same way chavez opened up his Uncles identical on the ropes Defense. ROger and Floyd were different but on the ropes with that defense they were the same. Watch vintage Chavez.
MOst Dudes who say Floyd would win never saw chavez when he was a primed fighter. HE was already considered a great before he reached 60-0 by many,dont believe me watch old fights and hear the comentary. By the way HBO never gave Chavez Credit.
Fair enough. I'm not one to tell someone they are wrong, because its all your own opinion. I definitely agree that Cotto will get hit plenty and that he isn't going to completely blow out Margo as some see it. I think he will win a comfortable fight, but not a blowout (Gomez would be a good example of a blowout). Cotto is not bad defensively, but he isn't great either. What makes him so good is his excellent offense in being able to apply technical pressure and amazing timing imo. Margo isn't an easy fight for ANYONE. He's a tough dude that will scrap it out. I personally just think that Cotto is an elite fighter with better skills and he will take a wide decision against Margo.

I believe I said.... primes which makes this fight at either 130 or 135 - either way JCC would punish Floyd, who`s NEVER fought a fighter of Chavez style AND calibre together. Chavez would win he break down Floyd's body, it be similar to the first Castillo fight except Chavez would win by a larger margin. At 135 Chavez wins late stoppage and at 130/140 Chavez wins a decision.
I don't think Mayweather would be able to handle the constant, effective pressure coming from Chavez. He has every conceivable styles disadvantage in this fight and lacks the raw natural ability such as speed, agility and strength, to get over such a disadvantage. Floyd's best asset, to me, is his style of defence and Chavez showed he could find a way around that perfectly. The word 'great' is overused but despite his underwhelming resue, I consider Mayweather to be a great fighter. However, I don't understand how people can watch the two in their primes and pick Mayweather. Chavez TKO10.
No it doesn't, not at all, you're just saying it in a way as to make it seem finalized, when it really isn't. History actually shows that styles make matchups, not neccessarily fighters. I was just talking about a guy like Nigel Benn and how he couldn't deal with a guy like Thulani Malinga due to styles, and another fighter with a similar boxing style in Michael Watson also gave him a beating. Same with Ali regarding fighters with great left hooks, or even good ones, as he was always open to them. It's styles for the most part, though obviously the fighter plays a part. Do you not think a fighter with a similar style who is better in every area would give a fighter who normally struggles with that style greater difficulty? I think it's common sense. That mode of thinking doesn't work unless we're comparing fighters with stylistic similarities, and in this case we most certainly are. Also, the proposed matchup doesn't have to be at 140, I have been saying all along, let's put this matchup at 135, which was Chavez's best.

Very good summation of the idea of how style's make fights. Castillo was considered in the same mold as Chavez, but not quite as effective. This is pretty much the same kind of disagreement I have been having with those knuckleheads in the General Forum. Miguel Angel Gonzalez is considered in the same mold as Castillo as compared to Chavez. Now Gonzalez gave De La Hoya a tough fight & De La Hoya was retreating in the final round. Now how on earth can De la Hoya destroy a prime Chavez?
