I think this would be a spectacular fight. I know you guys are giving Wlad **** because of his performance the other night, but like the commentators say time after time "Styles make fights." Wlad did everything right the other night to WIN the damn fight! No, it wasn't nothing beautiful, or fancy, but he did everything right to WIN! Now, with Lewis (who is very similar to Wlad in every aspect) he would have to use a different style, and have to actually fight. I can't really say who'd win because I've seen an PRIME Lennox Lewis, but not sure what you'd call a PRIME Vladimir Klitchko. I guess his last few fights (minus his most recent) would probably be his prime. I mean he's been knocking mofos out left and right since he lost 3. Lewis has been beat...I remember Rahman knocking him out beautifully. If Rahman can knock Lewis out...Then Wlad damn sure could. Of course if Sanders can knock Wlad out, then so can Lewis. I'd say the winner would be the first guy to really get ahold of the other one, but one way or another somebody would get knocked out.
Good points here. I agree Wlad has the faster hands. I like his left hook better since he can lead with it. Lennox would usually on throw it in combination with the right. But I do think Lewis had heavier hands. I'd rate their straight right hands on par with one another. Again, wlad's 1-2 is the fastest ive ever seen for a big man. But Lennox could counter-punch very well. Wlad must usually be set to throw power shots while Lennox can fire at any time. He also threw from more angles. For example, he could loop his right over the top, come from a 45 degree angle or shoot it straight. Wlad always shoots it straight. Versatility is key here. excellent pt. remember this was a major criticism of lennox early in his career. but as he got older, he became a tougher fighter more willing to mix it up and stand his ground. It seemed his confidence got better and better. I am hoping Wlad's confidence will continue to improve with each fight. IMO, he needs to trust himself more. if he can, i doubt he will be beaten before he retires. There will be only one Lennox Lewis but Wlad can create his own greatness.
Lewis never played safe like Wlad did in saturdays fight, people mention the Tua , Holyfield or Mavrovic fights but he threw a variety of shots and mixed it up in those fights rather than endlessly shuffle about pawing like Wlad.
If we assume Wlad is in his prime now, he's probably too cautious for Lewis to KO, so I"ll take Lewis by decision.
What's hilarious is that after one of Wlad's brutal knockouts, this same question was asked (as it is every 4 months or so).... and it was almost even on the poll. Boxing fans are amazingly fickle. In reality, that is what is dragging this sport down. You look at any other sport, and you have fans that are willing to support their sport through good times and bad... then you look at boxing and have just as many fans bashing the sport and its competitors, than fans talking about the sport in a positive manner. Fickle boxing fans are the reason that why have to wait years and years to see one good match-up that we have always wanted to see. The boxers are so afraid to lose in this "On loss and your written off" boxing world that they don't want to risk a loss. So we end up watching 95% of the fights that are decided before the fighter even enters the ring. We end up watching fights just wondering if there will be a miracle KO, because one guy is so much better than the other. Start supporting the sport and it's competitors... and stop bringing this sport down.
Lewis USED a wider variety, he also could change the way he fought during the course of a fight and had a looser way in which he moved and as Holyfield said, Lewis was like an artist. Whereas Wlad is stiff and preprogrammed, Lewis would have a more dance like way of moving hence how he warmed up in the ring pre-fight, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf5N8n0-I7o He often got advice from Chris Eubank and on many occasions you can see him use a Eubank swagger. He would mix it up and set traps then bring in a unexpected range of shots.
Has had enough strength to not go down everytime he was hurt, he had to have his brain rattled hard enough to give him a mini stroke for him to go down which is what the Doctor described the type of concussion caused from the Rahman punch when the head is caught with the chin up and gets spun around to the side like that, Wlad just goes down anytime he gets hurt and thats usually anytime he gets hit. Whatis it now, 13 times!!!!! Lewis was up at 6 in the Mccall fight an dthe ref stopped it at 8, Wlad was given until the count of 14 from the first knockdown against Sanders then fell down again without getting hit cleanly, yet stil the referee gave him a chance then he went down a 3rd time from a nothing shot and the ref again said carry on even though he was out on his feet since the first kd. Truth is not many, my opinion. But how many shots he really have to take? Not so many than lewis take.... and lewis cant take wlads power shots
:smoke VLAD has used just as much variety in his fights as LL ! LL had a better inside game with the uppercut but VLAD had the better close hook and lead hook ! You cant simply play up what LL did better and avoid the things VLAD does better ! VLAD has also been a much more dominant man when boxing his oponents ! LL in fact always looked more vulnerable ! :deal This is a hard fight to pick ! And on top of this VLAD is the bigger man which LL never faced with this kind of skill !:deal
