And still nobody acknowledges Primos performance against Walter Neusel...

Says it all really. Carnera was one legitimate fighter.

if the era was so lacking, how come the greatest heavyweight of them all (Joe Louis) lost to a champion of this era? Or do you think Joe Louis himself was badly lacking?

What this didn't take into account is when Carnera fought them.
    Neither
    Uzcudun
    Godfrey
    Neusel
    Campolo
    Lasky
Were ranked at the time .
Schaaf was a dead man walking
    Gains beat him.
This leaves Light heavyweight Loughran who couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag and was out weighed by a whopping 84lbs!
King Levinsky who had managed to win just one of his last 6 fights.
That's your myriad of world class contenders!

He was an unranked back number after Schmeling beat him up.

    Let’s assume that they went.

David Tua has got pretty far on beating name fighters when they were not ranked!

Presumably a lot more of the same would count for something?

Then if you beat some guys who were actually ranked, or even lineal champions, then let’s be fair?

There are people who favour him over Joe Louis based on what he beat!

    Just saying!

No he was not a back number. Neusel went off and won another twenty or so fights. He was 43-3 when he met Primo. Walter was coming off a win over 33-1 British champion who had beat Larry Gains! You are so far off line here.
