lol. very true. if that's the case, amateur boxing should be abolished, and they should fight at pro straight away.
That may be the case with other nations but not with Cuba , any 18 year old boxer from Cuba who classifies through the Cuban championships to go to the Olympics is perfectly able to beat ANY boxer in the world , pro or am , in 4 rounds bouts . I think it's a great idea to have pro boxers in the Olympics . Peace .
" Amateur Boxing should be abolished " , ¿ do you know what you're talking about ? , amateur boxing is the base of profesional boxing , it's the school , what you're proposing doesn't make any sense , it's like banning primary and secondary school so the students can go on straight to university . It doesn't make sense . Peace .
neither pacquiao or floyd would be around fighting in 2016 so they wont fight anyways plus the amateur rules if they stay the same favors a certain type of fighter.. is more like fencing than real boxing even if pac could fight he wouldnt do too well with those rules, a tall lanky fighter can stay away from his midget ass and just score points for four rounds to win easily not every pro fighter has the style for the amateurs :hat
My personal view is if Pro's can qualify they should be eligible to compete if they want to Its pretty obvious that different skills are required at both pro and amateur level, so it wouldn't surprise if some top pro's didn't make the cut. Pac and PBF wouldn't just walk through punches and KTFO everyone, they'd have to fight their best to win. I doubt with their pro success they could care less about the olympics they would rather make cash, this would be the same with almost all elite pro's. Fifa uses football at olympic level to promote the game and let countries develop talent. Fifa doesn't want olympic football to come close to rivaling the world cup so they will never let the top teams play.
OK, so you don't know how to be sarcastic don't ya? Just like Aztecas have said over and over again, Universities and colleges are bad. That's FACT for Aztecas.
I'm all for it... the Olympics should be the home of the top athletes in the world. So boxing shouldn't be any different imo. Can you imagine athletics, swimming, tennis, cycling etc beïng performed by amatures only  100 meter finals on the Oympics... winner in 10.4s :thumbsup
I got excited about this for a moment til I realised it's no good for the amateur system. It would be funny seeing someone like Shannon Briggs win a gold by KOing his opponents in the first round (but bad for boxing) I wonder who the most untouchable fighters would be? Floyd and Wlad come to mind. Calzaghe a few years ago would have been pretty awesome too. Probably still could be
Lol at people thinking guys like Pac would be a lock in for a gold. He couldn't even hit an old ass Mosley. Top amateurs are already better than 95% of pro boxers, then add in that they're more used to the AM scoring system. The Ukranian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko who won the val barker trophy at the last olympics is better than any pro boxer you know. Amateurs can't punch? You can find video on youtube of him knocking top fighters down with body and head shots and he's only a 60kg fighter.
You realise that amateurs are human as well and can also take a shot? In the amateurs the increased emphasis on technique and movement would mean that alot of the top pros would be punching air, a guy like Briggs would be less successful.
If guys like Harrison can win gold at the Olympics, something is wrong with the amature game. It isn't what it was before. Long time Cuban and Soviet amatures (who actually were semi-pros) are gone, so it's easier to get a medal. The sport has evolved too much to dismiss the glaring difference between the pros and amatures.
