Because you can equally find lots of quotes from Calzaghe stating that he does want to fight Jones. From the same time periods you quote from.

So, all it proves is that Joe Calzaghe has run his mouth a lot in his career and contradicted himself quite a lot. Sometimes it's hard to tell when he's doing it deliberately.

It's the very reason why he was accused of ducking Lacy, but that fight came off, accused of ducking Kessler, but that fight came off, etc, etc.

I still think it's more likely than not that Calzaghe fights Pavlik (assuming both come through their autumn fights they way they want). In which case there would be a lot of posters on ESB who would look really very silly.

So Sven Ottke is a warrior that takes on all comers huh? No he's a ****ing coward too. That whole statement is utter bull****. Fear has it's place in every profession. Boxing is included as there are plenty of cowards, the list is a long one

I don't think he is a coward either. But I do think it proves he has craftily and carefully protected the zero by not going for fights with the very best fighters in the weights around him, til they were old enough for him to win. His resume proves this anyway, but the things he said are real evidence. The quotes don't mean he is a coward, but they do prove that there is NO HONOUR in this money-making farce with Jones.

Calzaghe himself has known Jones has been shot for FOUR YEARS- because he said it himself in his autobiography!

I cannot respect taking a fight with a shot fighter to beat him up for money and christen yourself a legend-slayer, and I don't know how anyone can.

He will be a legend killer to all intents and purposes. Two legends will have bitten the dust in successive fights

Also, Cobbler makes a very good point. Some people are going to have to put on their big red nose and act like the clowns they are when Calzaghe in all likelihood faces Pavlik. It reminds me of the whole Haye/Maccarinelli thing, where everybody claims Enzo is ducking and suddenly it comes off

I bet Enzo wishes he had ducked now. All credit to him for taking a fight with a young hungry incredibly powerful world class fighter though.

He won't be a legend killer for beating up old men. Is Leon Spinks a legend killer? Is Grover Wiley? What about Omar Eduardo Gonzalez? Uriah Grant?? Well, those guys beat Ali, Chavez, Duran and Hearns. So they are legend killers to you?? I'm interested to know.

A legend killer beats live legends who are at peak or near peak.

I hope Calzaghe does fight Pavlik. If he doesn't, you Calzaghe obsessives will never ever hear the end of him sneaking off into retirement after beating a shot fighter for money.

This is true, I'm sure even TFFP wants to see Pavlik-Calzaghe:yep

That would be the case if Pavlik was actually some sort of Hagler, a legend himself. But he's not, and the hype will come to an abrupt halt soon enough.

I think you underestimate how fickle people are on here. The minute a guy wins, he's great and picks up loads of fans; Margarito. When he loses, hes nothing. People will forget him, and he won't even come into the equation when discussing Calzaghe's career :deal

I don't like Calzaghe. However, what he said represents the mentallity of pretty much every established fighter. Boxing is different from most sports. In most other sports, losses are expected and you don't have much of a choice in terms of who your opponent is. In boxing, a loss can derail your career and cost you a lot of money. When you combine that with the fact that fighters can pick and choose who they wan to fight, it's no wonder why fighters seek opponents based on risk/reward.

Your just so biased,Diaconu is very fast and smart in the ring.Joe didn't fight nobody good in his prime except maybe Eubank but he was past too.Beating Bernard was pretty good but beating Roy now doesn't mean ****

    Kelly Pavlik is...

    - UNDER 30
    - UNDEFEATED
    - TOP 10 POUND FOR POUND

How many fighters fitting this description has Calzaghe ever fought??

I'll give you a clue- it's less than one!

Is his resume already so strong he can afford to reject fights with top 10 p4p guys, if he wants to be considered an ATG? Of course it isn't.
